I find I enjoy the books and the movies much more if i watch the movie first, then read the book. I get to enjoy the movie, since I have no idea how crappy it is in relation to the book, and then get to experience the proper version with all the good bits left in. It's like a Super Directer's Cut.

I managed to finish The Silver Linings playbook though. ... haha.

How about:

Cool thanks. Added ;)

Not yet, no. It will be completely new to me. I have heard good things. :)
I just recently finished Life of Pi on audio though, and it was the first thing we watched on the tv at our new house. The book was quite good. The movie was visually arresting, but lacked a lot of the subtle philosophy of the book.
I haven't read/seen Life of Pi. Water for Elephants was one of those rare ones where I liked the movie just as much as the book (despite Robert Pattison).

I liked the movie more than the book which is unusual. I love Reese Witherspoon!

I don't really care either way, but I wasn't going to include/encourage it.

Phantom of the Opera
The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
Prince Caspian
Voyage of the Dawn Treader
2001: A Space Odyssey
The Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy

:)

but I will choose something else.

2: having qualities of eloquence, ingenuity, or thievishness attributed to the god Mercury or to the influence of the planet Mercury
3: characterized by rapid and unpredictable changeableness of mood :P
More suggestions:
Like Water for Chocolate
Homer's Odyssey
and, i'm sure some Agatha Christy novels have been adapted to film. but no idea which ones.

Will TV Shows Count?
Example: True Blood TV Show -vs- Southern Vampires Series by Charlaine Harris
If Book One is Made Into a Movie, Does Book Two Count?
Example: Movie-One For the Money / Book 2-Two for the Dough by Janet Evanovich
What About Upcoming Movies?
Example: Divergent by Veronica Roth is confirmed for a movie release date of 2014

Just finished Beastly. I loved it! I liked the movie too. Of course the movie was different but not that far off. The descriptions of the characters in the book did not match the characters in the movie. No biggie. X-men held true to the movie but with a little more background on characters. I love it! Game of thrones was extremely painful to finish. It was not for me.

Angie- I guess if you are having a hard time picking. I was going for things already made, for the comparison aspect.

Hehe. I didn't really care. I just thought "Book to Tv/Movie Challenge" sounded less interesting. =D

3: ch..."
Who me?
Also, no. I said I wouldn't have as much time.
I missed you. But I read that book you recommended. =D

What about movies that are soon coming out, like

August Book to Movie Challenge

2. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
3. The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan - read 22.8.

Up to you. Like I said, I was going with things that were out, so that people could read then watch (or watch then read), but you guys can overrule me.

8/8 Completed

☑Warm Bodies (8/12/13)
☑Beautiful Creatures (8/2/13)
☑The Help (8/7/13)

On IMDb it says October/November :/ I think I'll wait with this book. But I really need to read

Going to go for hard and will add when I figure out what I'm going to read.
1. I am Number 4 by Pittacus Lore - Read 09/08/13
2. Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice - Read 15/08/13
3. Stormbreaker (Alex Rider #1) by Anthony Horowitz - Read 06/08/13
4. The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (The Chronicles of Narnia #1) by C S Lewis - Read 04/08/13
5. City of Bones (Mortal Instruments #1) by Cassandra Clare - Read 20/08/13
6. The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne - Read 05/08/13
7. The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot - Read 03/08/13
8. Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson #1) by Rick Riordan - Read 11/08/13
I've seen all the movies except City of Bones which I'm looking forward to seeing. Boy in the striped pyjamas made me cry, it was so sad.
Read 8 out of 8 Yippee I've finished'

1. Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist
2. The Prestige
3. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
4. Beastly
And one that wasn't on the above list...
5. The Andromeda Strain
I'd add City of Bones but I'm a bit reluctant to shell out the $11.00 or whatever that it will cost to see it as a first run movie (The movie is in theaters 08/21/13.)
PS: Good luck to anyone choosing the The Brothers Karamazov. :) It is about 8 million pages long, and about 2 million of those pages are mind-bendingly confusing Russian names.

I would like to try this as my first challenge for this group. It looks like its going to be a lot of fun. I have a question on one of the books before I make my list. Would this count as one ?The Demonologist: The Extraordinary Career of Ed and Lorraine Warren Its the book behind the movie The Conjuring but its not a media tie in type.

The Brothers K is one of my favorite books of all time. And the movie has Shatner, which is just hilarious.

Sounds fine. :)

Oh. Well then certainly. I was reading a lot of boycott material on it recently, but somehow forgot when it was going to release.

Why was it being boycotted?

I liked it as well, but whoa was it confusing. And to try to read it in a month with other books and movies tossed in? That would be a tough row to hoe, IMO.
Perhaps you should add a fourth category above Hard? Something like, oh, I dunno, Epic. For impossibly long, impossibly involved novels that have been turned into movies. Anybody willing to do a bunch of those in a month would have my respect. And possibly condolences. You could do:
The Magic Mountain
War and Peace
The Stand*
Pity the movie version of Foucault's Pendulum was never finished, that would fit in nicely as well... the book was certainly mind-bending
Anna Karenina
ōܲ*
The Thorn Birds
The Clan of the Cave Bear
And doubtless others. But any three or four of the above would probably clock in at around 3,000 to 4,000 pages. And anyone doing five or more in a month? Scary.
* - Okay, okay so these were made for TV movies.
And the movie has Shatner, which is just hilarious.

Good heavens. I did not know that. That is kinda funny, and kinda wrong, somehow. If I rented that flick all I'd be thinking about is Star Trek. And Priceline commercials.

I was really disappointed with Life of Pi film, it wasn't anything I thought it was going to be and I've been put off the book by it.

Of course you could use that. I think as long as it was the inspiration for a movie it counts.

That's a fun idea; I think I'll do that.
Clan of the Cave Bear is one of the WORST novel to movie experiences I have ever had, I think.
Awful.
Also, yes. Yes. Shatner. lol. As ALEXI.

I was really disappointed..."
The book is pretty amazing. They spend a lot more time discussing the nature of animals, of religion and of humans.
The movie has the right skeleton, but the insides aren't very meaty.
And I feel very wrong for using that as a descriptor.

Oh. Well then certainly. I was reading a lot of boycott material on it recently, but somehow forgot when it was going to release."

short answer: people do not much appreciate Orson Scott Card's views of particular things/people.

You should also watch the movie and post your rating. That's always fun :)
Easy: 1-3
Medium: 4-7
Hard: 8 or more
I'm going to provide a pool of books made into movies below. You can always choose ones that aren't on that list or recommend that I add others to the list. It's just to get people started.
Feel free to plan, but don't start reading until August 01.
Have fun!
