Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Let us know what you are currently reading and your thoughts about this title.

message 2: by Jessica (new)

Jessica I am, currently, reading Animal Farm by George Orwell. I am doing a classic Author challenge and he is my letter G (halfway through my list too, yay). I read this my freshman year of high school. At that time I was in my Thriller/R.L.Stine phase. I didn't care for the book needless to say. This time around I am finding myself appreciating it a lot more. I also get hungry for bacon when I read it.

I will be starting Gone Girl this weekend.

message 3: by Craig (new)

Craig | 17 comments I love Animal farm, one of my favs.

I'm currently reading the Silo omnibus by Hugh Howey. I'm enjoying it but not finding it as addictive as Wool, I'm not as engaged by the main characters in this one.

message 4: by Pip (new)

Pip I'm edging into the final furlong of Dombey and Son. As I'm reading it on my Kindle, I had absolutely no idea what a massive chunkster it was til I saw a paper copy of it yesterday in a bookshop ;-)
It has just become my joint favourite Dickens, alongside Bleak House.

I'm finishing up Buried Memories: Katie Beers' Story. It's very sad and disturbing, the abuse she went through, but it's good to see she is healed.

I'm meeting Katie Beers tomorrow night at my library as part of my book club there. Looking forward to that!

I used to love to meet authors and also travel to book fairs around the US. I would also meet people from my online book groups at them and it was so much fun.

message 7: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I am currently reading The White Princess by Philippa Gregory and also Middle School - How I survived Bullies, Broccoli and Snake Hill by James Patterson. And I am really enjoying both titles which are so very different.

Nancy wrote: "Let us know what you are currently reading and your thoughts about this title."

I am reading, "As You Like It" by William Shakespeare and The Hunger Games, as well as 50 shades of grey.
I am enjoying the Shakespeare play very much.

message 9: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Finished the Patterson book which I enjoyed and now want to finish The White Princess. Will choose my next book after this.

message 10: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Finished The White Queen and began reading Oleander Girl and listening to Seconds Away.

message 12: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Started the dysfunctional and addictive story that is Gone Girl. I just want to shake everyone in that book right now.

I am not enjoying it so much. It is a series which I will not continue. The events are jolting which cause the plots to flow poorly. The characters lack development, after being 1/2 way into the book. And, the main character is no heroine that I would root for, I sometimes find myself hoping for her demise.

I just started reading Coraline. It reminds me of Alice in Wonderland. It's good so far. a quick read in time for Halloween.

message 20: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I've finished Release Me - J. Kenner. Is kinda like Fifty Shades and Bare To You style book, so intense are the characters that I throughly enjoyed it. Now I'm reading Tatterdemon - Steve Vernon.

Ƹ̴Ӂ̴Ʒ Jenn Ƹ̴Ӂ̴Ʒ Schu (jennschureviews) Oryx and Crake, interesting story thus far.

message 22: by Tessa (new)

Tessa (himmelhoch) I am struggling with The Death of Sweet Mister by Daniel Woodrell . Woodrell writes beautifuly, but this story..it's really a lot to take and I am not sure, if I like where this is going.

And than there is Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley . What can I say. It's horrible.

Yes, please don't! She totally butchered it. I've never been this frustrate with a book before. I loved Gone with the Wind so much. And now Mrs. Mitchell came and...arg!

message 26: by Jessica (new)

Jessica FInished Gone Girl and now going to start The Knife of Never Letting Go. It's a YA novel/ series that has gotten quite a response and great reviews. I am hoping to switch gears, after this one, and get back on the classics track for a bit.

LaLaLa Laura (laurabhoffman) | 4443 comments Mod
how did you feel about gone girl?

message 28: by Jessica (new)

Jessica I am getting ready to write my review. It's an great story. I only gave it three stars because the ending felt boring/never ending to me. I am thinking I might like her other stories more. I will read those in the very near future.

If you like psychological thrillers, then she is a must read author. Great writing and intensive exploration into what dysfunctional means.

message 29: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I dumped some o my reads and picked up some others. So, I am currently reading:

The Light in the Ruins (actually listening to this title)by Chris Bohjalian
After Her by Joyce Maynard
and another fairly new title with The Bookman's in the title.

Nancy so how do you like listening to audio books? I tried it but couldn't get used to it.

message 31: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I do like them now. At the beginning I only listened to those books I had read so in case I wasn't paying strict attention, I still knew what was going on. But I don't drive all that much so I also listen when I'm home doing things.

message 32: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I have arranged and rearranged the books I am reading in the last two days. As of now I am listening to The Witches by Roald Dahl and reading Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight.

how are they Nancy?

message 34: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I couldn't read Reconstructing Amelia - it was just too sad so instead I am reading Is This Tomorrow which is also sad. The Roald Dahl book is OK - so far not as goo as Matilda.

Enjoy, Nancy!

I read
The Masque of the Red Death last night. A very short read and certainly timeless! I see why it is a classic.

message 39: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Thanks Laura.

I also hope you will enjoy the book you are reading.

Slowly unfortunately. I keep restarting to read Heart of Darkness so as not to miss anything, but that becomes discouraging. I think I'll just finish it and attempt to reread it in a few weeks. I was going to finish it this evening actually, but I'm stuck with discussing the possible intervention of the USA in Syria.

message 41: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) I have finished Claim Me - J. Kenner which I thought the characters are so intense now with the way Damien and Nikki are learning about each other. It's still in the style of 50 Shades. Now I am going to read Complete Me - J. Kenner and I am listening to .The Woman Who Went to Bed for a Year - Sue Townsend on my phone.

message 42: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I never had a chance to begin A Bookman's Tale last night but I did finish reading Dream Lake which was a pleasant enough romance novel with a ghost. I have now learned that while I don't really like sci fi or fantasy, I do like ghosts.

I now get to choose a kindle book - not sure which one sine I still have two left for challenges on another group.

message 43: by Nancy from NJ (last edited Aug 30, 2013 11:18PM) (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I began The Bookman's Tale: A Novel of Obsession and wasn't really into it at this time. I have no doubts this is a very good read and I will most likely try it again.

] The Bookman's Tale A Novel of Obsession by Charlie Lovett

I did start both The Burgess Boys on my I PAD and Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library by Chris Grabenstien who in addition to writing many of his own books, co-authors books with James Patterson. This book is considered juvenile fiction.

The Burgess Boys by Elizabeth Strout

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I didn't get to far into The Burgess Boys but I did finish the Chris Grabenstien book and loved it. A five star read IMO and one for my top ten list for 2013.

I am also about to begin The Husband's Secret probably tomorrow.
