message 155: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (shuangs) | 128 comments yeah Jen, can you tell us a little more about barely all rights? And you too Branda, since you were planning to start reading it tonight.
PS: i'll eddit the early post tomorrow on a computer. :)

Joanne (shuangs) | 128 comments comments take two:
Before the the September Challenge from getreading published, i've read Cairo, Man Drought, The Lavender Keeper and The Rosie Project
All of these book i will consider as average read with the exception of Rosie Project and Cairo which will be my recommendation to others.
I've tried to read Questions of Travel in Augost. In fact, i've attempt to read it for at least 5 times. Unfortunately, i can't seems to pass the first 20 pages of the book. Maybe one day, one day in the future i will consider reading it again.

For this challenge, i'm going to read
Everything to Live For: The Inspirational Story of Turia Pitt, Watching You , Three Hours Late, The Shadow Year, and Burial Rites.
I've started on Three Hours Lates, and about to start Burial Rites too.

I hope this post make it all right? Happy reading all :)

Re Five Bells by Gail Jones I feel a bit cheated, to be honest. I was really enjoying it; loved each of the four main characters, found the little overlaps and recurring motifs quite engaging, but then it just ENDED. I didn't feel like I was suitably rewarded.

Anyway, I've moved on to Caleb's Crossing by Geraldine Brooks . Geraldine Brooks is one of my favourite writers, so I know she won't let me down.

Joanne (shuangs) | 128 comments Just finish Everything To Live For by Turia Pitt. Its a book that need lots of tissues. (sorry for not putting the link up as i'm doing it on ipad, and it doesn't seems to have the option available.

message 176: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (shuangs) | 128 comments Brooks books didn't excite me. I read Caleb's crossing couple of years ago. It is less than desire to say the lease. Maybe, i do have this thing about books that win some awards or something. I found that those books are generally got it for the marketing purposes than anything else.

I would like to read this one too Joanne, I saw her interviewed a couple of days ago, and am so amazed at her courage and that of her boyfriend.

message 178: by Joanne (new)

Joanne (shuangs) | 128 comments yes Branda, her boyfriend is amazing. Would like to see some of her interviews though. I'm disappointed, but not surprise that she's not in any GetReading events.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) This challenge was a total gift. thank you, Brenda If not for this challenge, I probably would not have read The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen. Now I see what the fuss was all about: a brilliant book.

Carol (mecaza) | 22 comments OK. My first challenge with the group :) Now to find one I want to read.. and can afford :)

Found four that look interestig..
hmm.. first stop - ebooks at Gosford Library - no joy.

Lexicon, by Max Barry - $16.73 at the Kindle store! I REFUSE to pay hard back prices for an ebook.

Blood Secret, by Jaye Ford, $16.66 at the kindle store.. ggrrrr.

Good news, Bad news, by Maggie Groff, $14.76. Bah!!

Dreaming of Zhou Gong, by Traci Harding (LOVE Traci Harding) $15.95 :( /sigh

THAT is why I rarely read new releases (unless that arrive at the local op shop :) ).

First challlenge big FAIL LOL

Joanne (shuangs) | 128 comments hi, most books are available in your local public library. Also, most books are available on IBooks for at least 20% cheaper than what it is on kindel. Cheers

If you head to your local library Carol, as Joanne said, you'll find most (if not all) there....that's where I get a lot of my new releases. Just picked one up myself:)

Lexicon by Max Barry
Blood Secret by Jaye Ford
Good News, Bad News by Maggie Groff
Dreaming of Zhou Gong by Traci Harding

All good choices there, but if you look at the original post for this challenge you will see you can choose older books too Carol. Don't give up!

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I've read my second book for this challenge: Freedom by Jonathan Franzen. If I could give this one 6 , I would.

I actually thought this was better than his
The Corrections.
