It was really cool hearing how the Fool made his way over to the Out Islands ahead of everyone.
I'm wondering who's really calling the shots here and why they want the dragons head. Maybe they don't really want the dragon's head - maybe they think the dragon will kill anyone trying to take his head and get rid of the Farseers. It doesn't make sense how whoever is planning this thinks there's anyway a dragon's going to let anyone kill it.

ch16 - peottre is either a good actor or he didn't really know what he was doing. wondering whether nettle is panicking now that she can't feel fitz anymore at all, and she sees all the weird nightmares from thick.

Well we know - or at least suspect the Pale Lady's influence - so maybe he was ordered to give it but doesn't know why? I don't know. He's always seemed very genuine and not very comfortable with the whole situation.

ch18 - that prologue is interesting... looks like Old Blood is cleaning house with the 'massacre of the piebalds'.
the Pale Lady seems to have some enormous power, what is she planning to do? she seems to have Elliania and Peottre well under her thumb, and as suggested before, she might her the head of the clan (Oettre) in her hands.
plus, what's going on with the serpents tattood on Elliania? what's their goal?
I'm not a fan of the fool's transport to the island. Girl on dragon really? Robin Hobb couldn't think of anything more likely. Feels a bit like deus ex machina to me, I'd rather have him taking a skill portal.

Good point! It very well might be
I did like the dragon telling Thick "to heal himself" :D

Hmm, here's my train of thought (it might get messy :))
First of all, the dragon is frozen. So they have a chance before it's 'thawing' to whack his head of, and he might not be able to do anything about it.
For who wants it, the pale lady is the only one i can think of. The why behind it is tougher. The only 'why' i can think of is that the pale lady wants anything the fool wants not. The fool wants to protect the dragon race, so she might want to kill it. Getting rid of the one male dragon that can fly might be the way to do that.
How this links with the Forged war, is a mystery to me.
I think she's going after Farseer also purely by connection.
EDIT: i forgot one detail from ch20... the pale lady has been digging tunnels around the dragon and did some attempts at killing him already, why need the six duchies' help?
does she think they have ways beyond her reach? skill? wit? has she heard of their magic and figured that was the only way?
