Jim Vuksic Of the fantasy novels which I have read so far, "The Stolen Child" by Keith Donohue is my favorite.

Mr. Donohue is a speechwriter at the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C.
"The Stolen Child" is his first novel.

Becky Lawyer | 106 comments @ Tadiana:LOVE "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell"! So glad to find another fan. My daughter and son-in-law loved it, but my mom and brother didn't. Can not figure that out. I thought it was delightful with a fantastic voice and lovely use of language. If you like fantasy, GIVE IT A TRY!

Also, Have you read the others in "The Thief" series? There is one that comes between "Thief" and before "King". And one that comes after "King". All FANTASTIC! Megan is a great writer (and a very nice lady). Her avid fans are still waiting for the next installment.

I also highly recommend Brandon Sanderson - almost anything he writes, although some of his can get kind of bloody. So, maybe not appropriate for this group. At least, probably shouldn't be added to the shelf. But, I'm not bothered by violence unless it's gratuitous and excessively bloody. Language and explicit sex bother me WAY more.

Other favorite fantasies would have to be Mary Stewart's Merlin books.

The Crystal Cave
The Hollow Hills
and The Last Enchantment

I believe there are a couple that come after these in the series, but I didn't think they were quite as good. Probably should reread.

Mary Stewart also wrote very good suspenseful romances which I REALLY like.

The1selectioner | 38 comments I've been looking for some good fantasy, but have been unsuccessful. Any ideas?

Becky Lawyer | 106 comments For those of you who like regency romances and fantasy, you might try Mary Robinette Kowal's Glamorist series. They are regency fantasies. I've only read the first one, but it was pretty good. Shades of Milk and Honey is the first in the series, I believe.

Also, His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik is like Master and Commander with dragons. The first few in that series (Temeraire) are very good. And clean, as I recall.
