Sarah Part 5 is the longest part of the book and a lot happens too!

I've finished the book now - it was amazingly good!

I felt really sorry for Walker, he was really scared about all the fighting and death and he blames himself for it all. Mechanical had a lot of loses compared to IT. I think he also starts to loose it slightly when he starts seeing/hearing Scottie in his workshop. That said, he was able to get the radio fixed and I was excited that he tuned in to the radios of the other silos and eventually Jules.

I was on the edge of my seat when Jules makes a suit watertight and descends down through the water to Mechanical to get the pump going. I thought it was really creepy too, all alone, in the water, in the dark, dead bodies floating around. Makes my skin crawl! She has some serious guts. When she is out of air at first I thought perhaps Solo had sabotaged it but then thinking more on this and how pleased he was to see Jules and how scared he was (even if he didn't admit it) on her going down, I thought that the equipment just broke down NOT that there was someone else in the Silo with them. I suppose the hints were there, lights on/off when they knew they had turned it off/on. I was surprised that they were all children - it must have been really hard for them growing up in there. I felt sad for Solo as he said the person who whacked him on the head was his age but in fact he was just a kid but as Solo probably hasn't seen himself in a mirror for years, still thinks he looks that age. I can't imagine what it must be like to be the sole survivor and living that long on your own.

OMG! It looks like Lukas is going for Cleaning! I wasn't expecting this. I thought he'd topple Bernard.

I'm pleased that people overheard Jules and Bernard's conversation over the radios as they both were very free with information and secrets in their heated discussion. I know people say "ignorance is bliss" but I think I'd want to know all the information and not be kept in the dark but then again once you know something you can't unknow it!

Jules is so strong, composed and brave deciding to go out in the suit to get Lukas. I'm pleased she made it in to the airlock with Lukas and I was momentarily saddened that Lukas was killed by the cleansing fire - but it wasn't him! It was Bernard! Lukas is safe! I'm so pleased he is out of the picture now. I can't decide whether he was evil or just duped in to "following orders". What do you think?

I thought this book was very engaging, fast paced, interesting, had some great characters in it and I just couldn't put it down. I've just bought the follow up book Shift Omnibus Edition (Silo, #2) which is apparently a prequel. And then the third book Dust takes off where this book finishes I think. Looking forward to reading the others.
