Aaron | 3 comments Hello,

I am a first time author, writing a world-building fantasy novel. I am looking for a beta to read the first three chapters of my novel, and offer honest feedback and criticsim. I am not asking for someone to edit my work, but rather, all I want is an honest critique. I want to know what captured your attention, and what did not. If you hate the entire thing, I would like to know. Please do not spare my feelings. The more critical you are, the better my future writing can be.

Thanks for all of your help,

Aaron

Justine Laismith (justinelaismith) | 25 comments Hi Aaron, can you give us an idea of the genre and perhaps a blurb so we know what the book's about? Thanks!

Aaron | 3 comments Of course, my book is a fantasy in the mold of Game of Thrones, Eye of the World and similar type books, and here is a blurb that may help describe the setting of my world.

"The slaving scaffolds were easy to pick out, because whereas only a few customers surrounded each of the other booths, hundreds of refas crowded around each scaffold, trying to push their way to the front of the action. Unfortunately, there were far more customers than there were humans. The vast majority of refas would return home empty-handed.
"Famous for their hard work ethic, intelligence, and obedience, humans formed the core of every Shandan industry, working in the fields, domestically, or wherever else their masters happened to place them. Unfortunately, humans also seemed to be disappearing at a far faster rate than they were bred, the reasons, easily identifiable.
"Firstly, humans, wretched though they may be, were far too succulent for their own good. There was no taste in the world quite as scrumptious as moist tender human flesh, the mere thought causing Onquip’s mouth to salivate.
"Secondly, and far more influential, was the promise of the refan Gods thousands of years before. After death, the number of human limbs each refa consumed throughout his life were all to be sewn together to become slaves for eternity. The more humans a refa ate, the better their postmortem would be. Many refiis were known to have spent half of their fortunes to ensure a grand life in the world to come, and although such a decision was clearly sensible, it bade poorly for the future of both the humans and the refas."

Craig Birchfield | 2 comments Would you be interested in a Beta exchange? I have a 60K word light humorous SF fantasy about an old man (Paleontologist)a 10 year old boy and a small very fast dinosaur. Smuggled into the USA with embezzled cash, Dr. Henry Fossil must keep her on the QT until he can replace the funds, until she gets loose in the town and pandemonium erupts. Grumpy Old Men meets Jurassic Park. Let me know if you are interested. Craig the Professor

Katelynne (MusingWithSirens) | 1 comments Hi Aaron,

I've read the information you've given about your piece and I would be very interested in working with you on it. I have a minor in English composition, and have done beta editing for a number of (unpublished) authors over the past eight years. Feel free to shoot me a message here or via my email (musingwithsirens on gmail) if you'd like to talk more.

Cheers,

Kat

I'm potentially interested, but a little busy at the moment. Do you have a deadline?
