December Challenge - Christmas (of course!)

That sounds like a good book Amber.
That sounds like a good book Amber.

So far my Christmas to read list includes:
Let it Snow, December's Wish, The Kissing Seasonand A Bush Christmas.
I have read and enjoyed A Bush Christmas Jess. I will also read December's Wish and The Kissing Season :) Hopefully I'll find some more too.

A Bush Christmas by Margareta Osborn
Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor by Lisa Kleypas
December's Wish by Karly Lane
Twelve Days of Christmas by Trisha Ashley

Thought I couldn't do this challenge because I don't like romances and most Christmas books end up as that. However I realised I could do a re-read of Hogfather which is most certainly a Christmas book! Does anyone have any other suggestions? Anything which is not romantic or twee. Is there such a thing as a paranormal Christmas? Or a real murder mystery ( not one of the sweet old lady kind).

Good. Yes. That sounds like a good one. And it is probably time I reread A Christmas Carol. Okay I am in!

Last Christmas I read Unholy Night and found it pretty amusing :-)

That's exactly what I need. I just knew there would be some good ideas for me out there.

Great!
Great!

These might still be a bit sickly sweet for your taste, Phrynne, but they aren't romances per se:
Skipping Christmas by John Grisham - about a couple who have no kids at home and decide to save the money they normally spend on Christmas paraphernalia and go on a cruise over Christmas instead. It sounds simple, but gets a lot of people off-side when they aren't getting Christmas cards returned or invitations to the Kranks' traditional Christmas party!
and On Strike for Christmas by Sheila Roberts who realises that the only reason Christmas happens in her household is because SHE makes it happen - she buys (and wraps) the gifts, she buys the groceries, does the cooking, decorates the tree, and the house, writes the cards and so on and so forth. So she decides she isn't doing any of it this year - she's going to do just what her husband and kids do - zilch.
I read both of these several years ago and enjoyed them at the time - but then I'm also not averse to a bit of romance, especially at Christmas time!! But, as I said, they aren't romances, although you may still find them a bit twee

I am already reading Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher for the Summer Reading Challenge. If I get time, I would also like to read A Bush Christmas by Margareta Osborn (although neither of my local libraries have it so tracking it down could be a challenge in and of itself!) and Christmas at Harrington's by Melody Carlson keeps popping up in GR recommendations for me - I haven't added it to my TBR yet, but it sounds sweet and maybe I might read it in Dec if I have time.

Phrynne, do you like Dean Koontz,

Thank you Kathryn. One minute I have no ideas and the next I have extended my TBR list by at least six books!

I did start looking at that list but the first batch I looked at all seemed to be those ones they call "cozies" (even the word turns me off). So I made the (wrong) assumption that there wouldn't be any thing there to interest me. I was obviously mistaken :)

Thanks Brenda - I don't really want an e-book, although it is cheap, but I don't really want to read it electronically But nor do I want to buy a hard copy either! I just want to borrow it, but obviously that isn't going to be possible! I'm fussy, I know! My other option is to trawl through the op shops, but that's time-consuming.
I'll see - I may not have time to read anything extra yet anyway :-) But thank you for the link, I've downloaded the sample to see what it's like, and I'll bear it in mind.

I'm pretty sure it was only released as an ebook Kathryn.

BUT, I have caved and decided to reread Little Women as it has been longer than ten years since the last time.

I have opted in for this challenge, but have had no clue what to read. I had noticed that Little Women was on a few of the lists, but not having read it did not really know why. I'll take your pick as confirmation that it has something to do with Christmas! I've been meaning to read it since forever, so now may be the right time.
