I think Greg is portrayed as dumb because the writer is bringing to light all the insecurities felt during the early adolescent years and essentially makes light of them. While many kids feel these things but don't act them out, Greg Hefley not only feels and thinks them but actually does them. It is a way of laughing at the trials of the pre-teen years and feeling better about them, feeling good that you're not Greg.

I think because he plays video games and he doesn't think most of the time so maybe that's why GREG HEFFLEY is acting dumb..,....cause really he is smart but not all the time I think he is just acting dumb so he can get attention

Because he's a middle school kid.

I think we all dumb like Greg most of the times!
