Please read the rules for nominating BEFORE you create your post!! And check our bookshelves to be sure you are not nominating something we have already read as a group!

The categories for January and February are:

January - Books about books

February - Books that center around a relationship/love, love themed (but NO erotica or cheesy romance novels, please)

If you nominate the book, and the book is chosen as a group read, you will be asked to lead the discussion! Don't worry, it's not hard, and we'll love you all the more for it!

Please do not nominate a book more than once. A book can only be voted on once, so multiple nominations within this thread are not counted.

Only ONE nomination per month per person.

Please be sure to post the title, author, and the month you are nominating it for.

Ideally, you can type it as follows -
August - Room - Emma Donoghue

If your post does not have those three things, it will not be counted.

Are you ready?

I will accept nominations through Friday. If we get tons of nominations, I may pull the plug on it a little early, so get them in as soon as you can!

Once I close nominations I will create the polls and let you know when it is time to vote!

Hit us with your best noms!

**Important note: At no time is it acceptable for an author to nominate one of his/her own books for the monthly group read. Likewise, it is not acceptable to "push" nominations or votes within this group. It also follows that "a nomination for a nomination" is not acceptable. If I suspect a push, or inappropriate actions have taken place within the group read nominations or votes, I reserve the right to deem those nominations or votes as ineligible.

Kaitlin Jones (kaitlinr913) January - The Princess Bride - William Goldman
[Maybe more fitting for February...but it IS technically a book about a book :) ]

The Princess Bride was already a group read, in October 2011.

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) No-one's going to vote for this. But I loved it and I need to read it again.

January The Death of Virgil by Hermann Broch

It's Virgil about his own Aeneid

message 11: by Kaitlin (new)

Kaitlin Jones (kaitlinr913) I wasn't a part of this group in 2011 and didn't know The Princess Bride was already selected as a group read, sorry.

John (johnred) For January, I'll nominate If on a Winter's Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino

Sorry, Sandra -- This book has also been read by the group, in June 2008.

message 15: by Heather L (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) If you aren't sure if a book has been read previously, please skim through the group bookshelf or check the Group Read Discussions.

Sorry! I actually checked the bookshelf and didn't find it. I didn't look at all the books, but search for it by alphabet order.

If on a Winter's Night a Traveler is missing from the group's bookshelf.

message 18: by Dionisia (new)

Dionisia (therabidreader) | 332 comments Hmmm, can Lori confirm that If on a Winter's Night a Traveler was a past group read? I can't find any group read discussion for it and it looks like it's missing from our bookshelf too. I see that it was nominated in November 2008 and March 2009. Help?

Dionisia, books are not missing from the bookshelf. They are placed there as soon as they are voted in and moved back again once they are read.

No one stated that If on a Winter's Night was a previous group read... I believe Heather was saying that The Thirteenth Tale was a previous read...

message 20: by Dionisia (new)

Dionisia (therabidreader) | 332 comments Hahaha, must have been a long day.

message 21: by Heather L (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) Lori is correct, I said The Thirteenth Tale and The Princess Bride were previous group reads.

If on a Winter's Night a Traveler sounded familiar, but probably because it has been nominated before. Sometimes books are nominated many times over before they are finally chosen.

Hmmm.. nominations were light this time around but I went ahead and put the polls together.

Go on and vote for the book you most want to read as group for January and February. One vote for each month.

Remember that the person who nominated the winning book will be hosting the group read discussion for that month!

Voting ends Dec 22!!!!

message 25: by Heather L (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) Steve, read the message above yours. Nominations are closed and we are now voting.

Ok guys, we have our February group read all squared away, but the January group read came out in a tie.

In February, we will be reading Outlander - Diana Gabaldon, and the discussion will be led by Kaitlin!!!

January tied between If on a Winter's Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino and The Library at Night by Alberto Manguel

Time to re-vote!!

Head back over to the polls, and choose which of the two you would most rather read together as a group. Voting will end on Christmas day.

message 30: by Nigel (new)

Nigel Bird (nigelbird) Revote's cool. I've read the Calvino and it's rather special.

message 31: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10578 comments Mod
And the final revote is in on January's group read!

Looks like we will be reading THE LIBRARY AT NIGHT, which was nominated by Dionisia!

message 32: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10578 comments Mod
So the group reads for January and February are:

January: THE LIBRARY AT NIGHT by Alberto Manguel, with Dionisia leading the discussion.

February: OUTLANDER by Diana Gabaldon, with the discussion will be led by Kaitlin!!!

Happy reading everyone!

Dee (austhokie) | 618 comments ohhh I love Outlander (lost track of how many times i've read it) - I'm excited that STARZ has optioned it for TV and the series will be on next summer

message 34: by Kaitlin (new)

Kaitlin Jones (kaitlinr913) I'm looking forward to the TV show as well, Dee. Though I don't think it could possibly be as good as the book :)

A fellow book lover on twitter pointed out the 1.99 nook book sale for OUTLANDER. If you don't already have a copy, and use a nook to read, this deal is perfect for you.. and just in time for our February discussion

Wendy (wendee08) | 6 comments Thank you Lori for the heads up. just purchased my nook copy of the book for $1.99!

Nat, if you look above at the last couple of posts, you'll see the books have been voted on and picked quite a while ago. That's why the thread says "Our Group Reads Are...." :)

message 39: by Ankush (new)

Ankush (ankushm) Dammit, I am just about to to finish "Outlander". But oh well, thanks for the heads up.
