You must have a Kindle Fire if you're having trouble reading outside in the sun. The Kindle Fire is backlit like a smartphone screen. The e-ink Kindles, such as the basic Kindle, the Kindle Touch, or (my personal favorite) the Kindle Paperwhite, are very readable in the sun.

I agree which is why I considered more of a tablet ...do you know if the kindle paperwhite do well with magazines?

Right I do have the fire but I also have the original nook which I use when reading outdoors in the summer. My nook does not do well with anything other than books however technology has changed so now I am trying to figure out if the magazines look nice in e-ink or pearl ink??

I have not looked at magazines on the paperwhite, but I have looked at some cookbooks on it and I do miss the color photo's...if the person you are buying for mostly reads magazines that have a lot of photo's...I would go for one of the tablets....if the magazines are mostly articles then the paperwhite would probably be fine
The thing is she is not a huge reader maybe a book a month. She does love magazines. She used to have a kobo but it was damaged a few years ago.
Now I am trying to decide which one. At first I thought Kindle because I love mine for magazines but there are considerable draw backs especially reading outside in the sun. So now I am unsure.
Do you have any experience with reading periodicals on Nook, Kobo or Sony? I would prefer the pearl ink or something similar to that because she tends to read outside in the summer a lot.
Thanks!
