Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
Well I managed to download an ebook copy of this, hopefully will start it tonight :) looking forward to it, this doesn't sound like my usual choice of books

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

Have reserved it at the library hopefully it won't take too long to come in

Marjory (marmbrust) | 208 comments I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. Not my type either, but change is good.

Marjory (marmbrust) | 208 comments Ok, I have the book in hand. Going to start this weekend. You guys with me?

Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
I really should get offline so I can go finish the book I'm currently reading lol. But Yep, whether I finish the other book or not I'm going to start this tomorrow :)

Jennifer (The Nightly Book Owl) (misscupoftea) | 18 comments Same here! Can't wait to discuss!

Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
I've already started thinking about a Feb group read. I'll make a topic for that in a minute

Marjory (marmbrust) | 208 comments Silly, fun, romantic, love story of course. It's valentines day....

Rachel (hrhrach) | 75 comments What book? It won't let me see!

Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
Which one? Our February book? Still no decision, if you go to the other thread, you should be able to see our suggestions :)

Inkeri I found an audio version of the book on YouTube and the video is just under 6 hrs long, so reading the book shouldn't take too long. The book is read by Neil Gaiman himself on the video and I was thinking of listening to it while reading it tonight.

My husband is off to a friend's bachelor party tonight so I have the whole night to myself and what better would I do than reading a good book.

to the video in case any of you would like to have a listen while reading too.

Rachel (hrhrach) | 75 comments Thx Jennifer. Idk if I can join this time as I have so many jan books already plus that's one of the few I DIDNT buy this wk. I spent way too much and got 15 bestsellers or not too long ago best sellers. I usually wait for price drops n did get a few deals but sheesh I don't know what came over me.

message 15: by Rachel (new) - added it

Rachel (hrhrach) | 75 comments Would like to join you all for Feb tho if that's ok.

Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
That's fine. I actually downloaded a free epub of this book though. If I do a group read I usually get free epubs or not participate. We will have more notice for febs read too. :)

message 17: by Rachel (new) - added it

Rachel (hrhrach) | 75 comments Sounds good!!! Thanks for doing it!

Inkeri I finished the book earlier today. I really liked it! It was the sort of fantasy I really enjoy reading.

How are the rest of you doing with the book?

Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
Excellent effort, I've only read about 2 pages. Im going to head up town and when I get home I plan on getting stick into the book :)

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm waiting for a copy from the library as there were a couple of reserves before me

Marjory (marmbrust) | 208 comments I'm on page 42, hopefully will get it done tonight. It's a fast read. So far, I like it.

message 22: by Rachel (new) - added it

Rachel (hrhrach) | 75 comments Just curious in case I have time where was it free? I read all ePub for past 3 yrs. But only place I know it to get that it's not close to free. Thx

Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
I just typed it into google plus free epub (or whatever type you use) has to search through a few to find it. That or I always check here. Sometimes I can get free downloads from goodreads

Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
If you can't find it, let me know, I might be able to email it?

Im about 75 pages in, its a good read, if not a little strange. Im guessing things might become a bit clearer towards the end.

Marjory (marmbrust) | 208 comments I must have stopped at the same chapter as Megan. Yes, it's a bit strange but I get it. Definately a different read than I usually choose. But that's good, it's a nice change.

Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
Exactly what I was thinking. I actually can't wait to pick it up again.
Even the way it's written is pretty effective, I noticed that I was starting to pull faces/cringe as I read. This was a great first group read

Hard to comment till everyone is up to date. There is one quote that I loved and am going to use it again.

Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
I think its going to be one of those books you just love but cant really explain why

Marjory (marmbrust) | 208 comments Hi guys. I started my own bookkeeping business a couple of months ago, and got four new clients last week. Thought I was going to read more this weekend, but was really busy. So tired tonight all I could do was rate books that I've read in the past. Promise to get this book read this week so we can discuss it.

Hope I am not holding you guys up.

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

dont worry re waiting for me to discuss it could take ages for my library copy to come in. in another group im in ppl just hide spoilers in their discussions using the (view spoiler) command so can opt not to read that bit if you dont want to yet - just a thought

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

sorry the command is < spoiler > then type the text here < / spoiler > just without the spaces

Jennifer (The Nightly Book Owl) (misscupoftea) | 18 comments Finally got around to reading this, and yes I agree with everyone here. It is strange, and I can't wait to finish to see if maybe it will all unravel itself. I really love the mystery and the ambiguity of it all.

Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
Don't stress, its a January read, plenty of time. And yes, just use the spoiler html if disclosing anything major. :)

Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
Finished this book. I really enjoyed it, though it was so unlike anything I normally read. I feel like there was an underlying theme that is just out of my grasp. I'd love for anyone to share what they feel the theme of the book is.

Marjory, what was the quote you liked.
The one that sticks out in my mind is (view spoiler)

Marjory (marmbrust) | 208 comments I am just about to finish it. Fell asleep last night while I was reading. First quote is on page 50, third paragraph, and I love the conversation on page 112. I think both have to relate to the whole underlying theme.

I like the book, although I don't know if I'd be able to read too much fantasy. I found that I had to re-read things after saying......wait, what?

Marjory (marmbrust) | 208 comments Finished it. It is a wonderful book.

Inkeri A fellow reader (a girl named Jessica) in another group mentioned in a thread that she went to an evening where Gaiman discussed about the book. This is what Jessica mentioned that Gaiman had said:

(view spoiler)

I think that might explain a little of where the book comes from.

I really liked this book although I'm not exactly sure why I liked it so much. It wasn't as mind exploding as it could have been according to the praising words I've seen in reviews. And it wasn't SO good that I feel the urge to read over and over again. Yet still I loved it.

I've read fantasy books before and it's one of my favorite genres, but the books I've read are about Harry Potter and witches and wizards, or about Sookie Stackhouse and vampires and faries. This book was very different sort of fantasy compared with those, (view spoiler), and I think it was better sort of fantasy in a way.

If I would read it again I would probably find a million new things I didn't see or realise this time around. Maybe I will read it again someday...

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

Just picked my copy up from the library hope to start reading it tomorrow

Marjory (marmbrust) | 208 comments Yeay!

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

Jennie wrote: "Hmm @61 pages in at [spoilers removed] and I dont think this book is my thing :-("

Definitely not my type of thing but I found it a pretty quick read so it wasn't too bad

Marjory (marmbrust) | 208 comments It wasn't mine either, but I ended up liking it. Keep going, it gets better. Lots of hidden messages there.

Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
I didnt really find the hidden messages, What did you find Marjory?

Marjory (marmbrust) | 208 comments Just what I found before. I'm not saying anything till she's finished reading and I can't do spoiler alert on the iPad. I think I meant to say hidden meaning, not messages.

Megan Dixon | 268 comments Mod
yeh, righto, well I'll look forward to that then
