Beverly I have a question/suggestion regarding the nomination for the book-of-month reads.

It is a nice idea that we can suggest books.

But it seems that only about 6/7 people vote in the polls and we have a long list of books to vote on that most of the books get no votes or 1 vote and the winning book gets 2 votes (except for Dec where it looks like everyone wanted a holiday read).

So I was wondering if we could have a theme to suggest books (actually the themes in the Bingo Challenge would probably work w/some tweaking).

And then depending on how many books would be in the poll (based on 7 people voting) use a randomizer to pick the top x books to be in a poll.

Namaste

I was thinking that we could use the themes in the reading bingo challenge as monthly themes if everyone is interested in participating.

Kanita Carington-McDonald (kanitacaringtonmcdonald) | 44 comments Great group suggestions & ideas Beverly & Denise! I just joined the BINGO Challenge and think incorporating its themes in our nominating & voting processes would be perfect!

I'm nominating a Harlem Renaissance Era & mystery: Darkness and the Devil Behind Me Darkness and the Devil Behind Me by Persia Walker by Persia Walker.

Leslie Nicole | 53 comments Kanita's book suggestion sounds good since we had discussed reading a mystery, and that it is from the Harlem Renaissance, Feb being black history month. Just seems like a great Idea to me.

Christy Banks | 3 comments This sounds like it might be interesting: Brownstones: Brown Girls by Paule Marshall or Flight by Walter Francis White? I'm sure everyone has probably read them both---just trying? =)

I had also nominated a Persia Walker book:

Beverly Has anyone read Persia Walker's work?

Kanita Carington-McDonald (kanitacaringtonmcdonald) | 44 comments I've not read anything by Persia Walker but I've really been wanting to and I've read great reviews and commentary on her work.

I have read a couple of books by her. Really enjoyed them - interesting characters - a couple are recurring but each book works well as a standalone.

I am hoping she finds time to write/publish books again.

Kanita Carington-McDonald (kanitacaringtonmcdonald) | 44 comments Oh, Lulu! I really enjoy Terry McMillan's work and need to catch up myself up on her list of wonderful books. So, of course...I wanna read that one too! :)

Paule Marshall - I have not heard her name mentioned in a little while. Brownstones: Brown Girls is a classic and a must read. While I have not read all of Marshall's books - those that I have read I have really enjoyed. She was one of the authors that in the early 1970s set me on my road of seeking out more books by authors of color.

I have not read any of Walter White's fiction - glad to see that they have brought some of his work back into print.

Mahoghani 23 (mahoghani23) Using the chart is a good idea but once again there will still be books to vote on.
