The world beyond the mirror was a world as I could never imagine. Steep red hills, jagged rocks and dull red sand that stretched on and on and on all the way to were the sky met the earth. All around us hung a red mist so sheer gossamer was as nothing but a tragic compromise. Through the red mist I could see the faint shadow of our world, of Alistair and her golden walks, and the crystal palace crumbled and defeated. But I could not touch that golden world no matter how far I reached, for the mist that cradled the image of Alistair kept it just at the edge of our fingertips. And when the wind blew, with it shifted the mist and the vision that was our home, leaving only the barren red earth before us. We stood at the edge of a great city much fallen and laid to ruin, an old city filled with shadows and evils that had slept undisturbed until now, their many-eyed faces rousing at the sounds of our heartbeats. Nig ran us through the wasteland and rubble with solemn vigilance, the red mist our only consolation. Behind me, I could hear the Priestess muttering prayers of safe passage, her hands moving with her words, but her ears following our footsteps. This place seemed to swallow up her words, so empty it was.
