Lobstergirl Right now the section of the Manual referring to the fact that titles, degrees, etc. are not appropriate says only:

Authors with titles or degrees (such as Dr., Sir, Ph.D., Captain, Reverend, etc) should NOT be included in the author name (unless necessary to avoid confusion).

Correct example:
Phillip C. McGraw

Incorrect Example:
Dr. Phillip C. McGraw

There are exceptions to this rule and I think it would be good to list some of them in the Manual. For example:

Pope John Paul II
Mrs. Henry Wood

I'm sure we've all come across others.

Barth Siemens (barthsiemens) I am so tempted to "correct" Dr. Seuss.

Lobstergirl That's another good example of one.

Maybe the Library Manual staff will now respond to this thread?

Who enters revisions/additions into the Manual?

There are a number of staff members who do so.

We appreciate the suggestion, but have decided that a running list of exceptions is not a good idea. We have slightly modified the language of the relevant section of the Manual, and if there are specific authors needing Notes to be added by staff members, please use the Contact Us link on the Help page.

Lobstergirl Authors with titles or degrees (such as Dr., Sir, Ph.D., Captain, Reverend, etc) should NOT be included in the author name (unless necessary to avoid confusion, or if part of a recognized pen name (e.g., Dr. Suess)).

It's misspelled - it should be Seuss.

/help/show/2...

Perhaps "Pope" should be removed, then? It's not part of a pen name.

Thanks for catching the typo.

Whether you consider Pope John Paul II a pen name or a title necessary to avoid confusion, it is the form of the name that will continue to be used on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ.
