Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 11182 comments 25.6 - Stacie MI’s Task: All the Colors of the Rainbow*

We all know that April showers bring May flowers, but they also bring rainbows! In honor of this colorful miracle, we will read books that celebrate those colors, as well as celebrate some of my favorite genres. For this task, choose TWO different colors listed below and read a book for each. The catch is, the colors you choose must be visible somewhere on the cover of your book.

Red - Red is the color of blood and it is also associated with a well-known caveat of Mystery - the red herring. Read a book with the genre Mystery on the book’s main page.
The Lost Symbol (Robert Langdon, #3) by Dan Brown (the seal and the sky are red)
Orange - Orange gives the sensation of heat and corresponds with desire and pleasure. What fits this color better than Romance! Read a book with the genre Romance on the book’s main page.
A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks (orange leaves)
Yellow - Yellow is associated with danger, as well as with cowardice. Never will I cower from danger more than when I am reading Horror. Read a book with the genre Horror on the book’s main page.
Christine by Stephen King (author's name and title are yellow)
Green - When I think of the color green when associated with books, I think of Science Fiction full of green aliens. Read a book with the genre Science Fiction on the book’s main page.
Annihilation (Southern Reach Trilogy, #1) by Jeff VanderMeer (green plant)
Blue - The color blue is associated with wisdom and intelligence. I associate Blue with Fantasy novels, because, let’s be honest, you often need to use your brain to understand just what is going on in these books! Read a book with the genre Fantasy on the book’s main page.
Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor (blue mask)
Violet/Purple - Purple is well known to be the color associated with royalty, and when I think of a book featuring royalty, I think of Historical Fiction. Read a book with the genre Historical Fiction on the book’s main page.
Soulless (Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger (purple dress)

*Yes, I know there are generally considered to be seven colors to the rainbow! For the sanity of our moderators and because of it’s closeness in color to both Blue and Purple, I’ve omitted Indigo from the list.

NOTE: Books with genre "Children's" or "Kids" that are at least 100+ pages and conform to all other SRC rules may be used for this task.

NOTE: Books with genres “Graphic Novel, “Sequential Art, “Comics, and “Manga that conform to all other SRC rules may be used for this task.

Required: State which colors you used and identify the object that matches the stated color when you post.

For the first book, the cover looks more orange to me, but the red title works.

Joyland works as well! Enjoy!

As long as Science Fiction appears somewhere in the genres, it will work, so you're approved!

You may want to get the genre approved in the Genre Verification thread though, seeing as it's the last one listed and may fall off!

It will work for either. If you plan to use it for Horror, you may want to get the genre approved - Horror falls close to the bottom!!

Looks like a cute book!

Generation Loss is not a stretch at all! Definitely looks green to me! You may want to get it approved in the Genre Verification thread, though.

Your other selection works, as well.

Stacey ... please clarify ...
The genre is listed as SCIENCE FICTION FANTASY (I had put a hyphen in there before and I realize there is no hyphen)
So does this book still qualify as "science fiction" - you have previously agreed it has green on cover.

I can definitely see orange: title, author's name, and in the sun. Remember, the entire cover does NOT need to be one color. A small amount of orange will work as well.
