I plan on teaching English to middle school age students. I am considering adding more fictional young adult literature to my curriculum. Does anyone have book suggestions for a progressive English classroom? I am especially interested in books with multicultural characters.

Khalaf (kalreja) I don't know if my suggestion would be suitable for middle school students, but The Zahir by Paulo Coelho has a multicultural depth.

My students, adult ESL, have really enjoyed The Alchemist by Coelho. It is simply written, but has very complex themes.
Even though I work with adults, I think this book would be appropriate for young adults.
