Hey there!

First, I want to thank all of you for participating in what has been about the easiest group in the world to moderate. There has not been one single negative incident requiring action, and that says a lot to me about the quality of people that have chosen to be here.

I started the group at the beginning of the year because I liked the idea of the challenge, and having a group of like-minded readers to check in with as we progressed (or not). My goal was for this to be a no-pressure place where we could keep track of our progress, and see what others chose to read for the categories.

As the year progressed, I got busy with life but the group has carried on and it looks like quite a lot of you would like to see another challenge for 2016. With that in mind, I'd like to find several volunteers who would be willing to co-moderate. The group requires very little work, but the task of figuring out how to run next year's challenge will be a bit of a - challenge! Haha. Fortunately there has already been some great discussion about possible categories and format of the challenge.

So - please let me know if you would like to help moderate this group. I'd love to have some help.

Cheers!

Anne

Thomas Hillring (dakkster) I'm not sure I'm going to go all-in or participate at all in next year's challenge, but I could definitely help out moderating because I like reading all the posts you other people write here :)

Sorry not to get back to you sooner - I was on a long camping trip. Got a lot of reading done because it RAINED a lot.

Moderation of this group doesn't take much time at all. There have been so few problems running the group, and I've had zero reports of people behaving poorly. The only thing that really needs tending to is the problem where people posting from the app can't put their book into a specific folder. I check in every so often to look for those posts. If I see one and can't figure out which folder it should be in, I reply to the post and ask where they'd like the book to go, then put it into the "orphans" folder.

Otherwise, I poke around and read posts to see how everyone is doing. It's been very low key!

Melissa Not sure how many moderators you are looking for, but if you need another, I'm in. If not, no worries.

Christy (craftychristylovesbooks) | 1 comments I also would like to moderate for the group. I'm constantly on GoodReads and reading books.

Thanks everyone! I don't think it hurts to have a number of moderators that can check in every so often. I'll get you all on board soon.

I expect the group to continue on as a pretty mellow, low maintenance environment. With several moderators it won't matter if any one of you don't check in for a few days. Heck, I let things go for quite a while here and nobody noticed! Ahem.

In case you'd like to see the opposite of what this group is, there's another group that started the same time we did to tackle the same challenge:

/group/show/...

They're taking a much more manic approach, which I guess works for some people. I prefer a relaxed approach, and appreciate the tone of our group here.

Heather (heatherbowman) I love our group atmosphere! I've made several friends by popping in and out throughout the year. We've had some great discussions even when we have different opinions. (What a nice change of pace for an online group!)

I looked at that group at the beginning of the year and decided it wasn't for me. I couldn't go straight down the list like that. I like that we can jump around and discuss the categories whenever we get to them.

Thomas Hillring (dakkster) Yeah, that's way too intense for me. I would have lost interest really fast.

Melissa I had also looked at that list at the beginning of the year and really disliked that I had to read the books in order of the list. Was so happy to find this group!! Thanks Anne!
