Jerrod (liquidazrael) Ok, this is one of my favorite 'realms' of dwelling. The odd creatures, the bizarre cults and personalities and may other oddities that make up what has become the cthulhu mythos.

What do others think about the cthulhu mythos? Do you have any authors that write in the CM that you enjoy?

If you don't have a clue as to what I'm talking about, you can find plenty of info here...

as for me, I'm a fan of Lovecraft, the creator of what has become the CM. But I'm also a fan of Brian Lumley, a British author that has done many stories that take place in the CM.

I have been a HUGE Cthulhu fan for more years than I care to remember. HPL didn't know what he was creating when he did. Or maybe he did and it scared him to death! -grin-
No matter. I have been actively collecting Cthulhu related writings for some time. They run in cycles and right now, the cycle is high. there are more Cthulhu related books and stories and comics and movies... coming out than it is possible to keep track of.

As for other authors, Lumley is good, I definitely agree there. Here is a list of who I feel are the best after HP Lovecraft.

* Robert Bloch Bloch is probably best known as the author of Psycho. He began corresponding with Lovecraft when he was only 16 years old, and soon thereafter began writing “Cthulhu Mythos tales. In Bloch’s “mythos story, “The Shambler from the Stars, Bloch kills off a character modeled after Lovecraft. Bloch’s “Notebook Found in a Deserted House is, perhaps, his best “mythos work.
* J. Ramsey Campbell
* Lin Carter
* August Derleth
* Robert E. Howard
* T.E.D. Klein
* Henry Kuttner
* Frank Belknap Long
* Brian Lumley
* Clark Ashton Smith Smith incorporated numerous Lovecraftian elements into his fiction and poetry (and Lovecraft returned the favor), and also created many Lovecraft-related paintings and sculptures.
* Colin Wilson

Some of these have also written non-fiction books, essays, encyclopedias about HPL and the Cthulhu Mythos.

(I copied this list from the HPL site. )

Pamela | 80 comments I've read Lovecraft Mythos for years. I write in that vein too. Though one is an erotic novella in both print and eBook, Unwitting Sacrifice 9on my shelf too), buy my pseudonym , Sapphire Phelan, I have two short stories out, one in the print anthology, The Parasitorium: Parasitic Sands (on my shelves, but you can find the book at Amazon: ), the other was in an anthology, now online at Innsmouth Free Press (Lovecraft e-magazine) as reprint:

Alan Baxter | 29 comments Lovecraft returned the favour in a story where he kills off a Bloch-based character. I can't remember the story name off hand but it's the one where the guy releases the darkness from the old church and it comes for him.

I'm a huge H P Lovecraft fan. People might be interested in this review of The Call Of Cthulhu that I wrote for my blog -
