IT'S A PERKS HALLOWEEN READ-A-THON

As a group let's see what we can read in the month of Octoberand have a Read-A-Thon with a twist!

How this works...

* Each book needs to "connect" to Halloween. We have provided a list of words (in the next post) for you to chose from

* For each unique word you connect to through the month, give yourself 10 points.

* If you can’t connect it to one of our words, but have a different way to connect to Halloween, that’s ok, just give yourself 5 points.

* If you connect to a word you have already connected to, give yourself 5 points

* As soon as you have a book that you have read in October2015 that can connect to a Halloween word, post it with the reasons it "connects" and the running points tally for you, and for the group for the month, and let's see how many books we can read and connect in the month!

* The person with the most points at the end of the month will be crowned our October Connector! (no prizes, but lots of congratulations ;)

Emily Kelsall (emilythebooknerd) | 19 comments Oh, I was thinking books just had to be finished in October, not read fully in the month, for some reason, but that doesn't make sense for a read-a-thon. So I had to delete Days of Blood and Starlight, unfortunately. Edited The Light Between Oceans post.

message 28: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5912 comments I don't think they do, Emily. I meant read or finished. I'll let Karen be the final say on that though, since the read-a-thons are her idea.

I am really sorry, but it looks like I'm too obsessed with rules ... you know, Collen, according the rules above it's just 10 points max each book, even if we can find many connections words in the book and if you repeat the connection word between your own books, 5 points max.

Maybe next time I'll remove the limit of one word per book. What do you guys think?

We could use something like "find at least one word to connect your book to Halloween (or any other holiday)" and eliminate the points and just leave it like in the others read-a-thon that we have just a counter of books for us and one for Perks.

That would be fun to be able to find more than one connection next time :) But I might suggest that there should still be a limit on how many connections you can find (like say maybe five per book or something) because we still want the winner to have read a number of books, in my opinion, not just one book that has every connection, for example.
