I am reading Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption which has been very interesting, but I haven't had as much time to finish the book this past week as I would have liked. I will work toward finishing it by the end of the month.
- What is the current average rating of the book? 4.44
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
Very rarely. I usually choose something from my book shelf - books I've accumulated over time. If I'm getting something from the library, it's usually recommended or a group read.

The Wise Man's Fear
- What is the current average rating of the book?

- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
Yes, I do.

A:

Q: What is the current average rating of the book?
A: 4.29 (!!!)
Q: Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
A: Not always, but I got really surprised with the rate of Divergent!! :O

There were a few on my list rated higher, but they're either part of a series, or I wasn't able to get from the library at this time.
Sometimes I pay attention to ratings, but not everyone has the same opinion about a book. For example, Fifty Shades of Grey is rated high, but I couldn't even finish it

I'm reading The Nightingale.
What is the current average rating of the book?
Right now, it's at 4.53 with over 124, 000 ratings. To be fair, I set some limits on this category. I had a couple of books on my list that technically had a higher rating, but based on fewer than 10 ratings. I also have Lobster Is the Best Medicine: A Collection of Comics About Friendship on my list which is at 4.54 but it also doesn't have a ton of ratings.
Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
Not really. I tend to look at what rating a book got more out of curiosity than anything else. Sometimes it's interesting to see how other people rated a book I either really loved or really hated. I don't think I've ever let a low rating sway my decision as long as the synopsis interests me.

- What is the current average rating of the book? 4.27
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
I look at the rating and if its low it might make me think twice however its more the reviews, book cover and the description of the book that I pay more attention too.

- What are you reading this week? Oak Lord by Catherine Cooper
- What is the current average rating of the book? 4.52
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book? If it's by an author I'm familiar with, no, but if it's all new to me, I look at it, but won't necessarily use it as a determining factor.

- What is the current average rating of the book?
4.46
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book? I look at ratings but I normally read the negative comments just to see if there is anything that would turn me off. Otherwise I figure we all have different tastes so don't take too much attention to the actual rating.

What is the current average rating of the book? 4.55
Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book? I've never used the ratings when picking which books to read. This is the first time I picked a book based on it's rating, but only because of the challenge.

What is the current average rating of the book? 4.57
Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book? I tend to read reviews and look at recommendations to choose. But it's still fi to see the star ratings.

- What are you reading this week?

- What is the current average rating of the book?
4.37
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
I do. I usually never read anything under 3.5 stars unless I've heard good reviews from friends or others that like the same genres as me.

Wonder
What is the current average rating of the book?
4.42
Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
No, I usually take a look at the ratings but I don't choose a book based on them. A lot of books that I've read and liked have a poor rating, sometimes because not a lot of people have read them.

November 9

Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
Sometimes. It depends, if its an author I usually read then no, if its a popular book than yes.

Suraiya Jafari: An American President by Cindy Moy
What is the current average rating of the book?
4.47 (I gave it a 5)
Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
Not usually. In fact I try not to use the ratings, because often people are rating the topic, not the quality of the wriring, the brilliance of the storyline, the character development.

The Nightingale
There were a few with slightly higher ratings but they are part of series that i haven't gotten to that point yet.
- What is the current average rating of the book?
4.53
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
Sometimes, if it's an author I haven't read before I might read a few reviews first.

November 9The Name of the Wind by Colleen Hoover
What is the current average rating of the book?
4.50
Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
Yes, I usually only read books about a 3.5. I typically will look at the average and then skim the first few reviews to make sure that they're fairly in line.

Stars Above
- What is the current average rating of the book?
4.44
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
Usually, but not always. If I hear of a book that sounds interesting, but isn't highly-rated, I would still read it. I think the rating colors my expectations more than anything else, though.

I just finished reading this for this week.

- What is the current average rating of the book?
4.64
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
I take a look at the rating, but almost only when I'm not sure if the story is really interesting to me or not, to see what the average rating is.

Like many in this thread, I read The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss.
- What is the current average rating of the book?
4.55
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
No, but a book with less than 3 stars does make me a bit wary. I certainly didn't agree with the mid-4's rating of The Name of the Wind (I gave it two stars), so it's fair to say ratings are a poor indicator of how much I'll actually like a book.

- What is the current average rating of the book? When I started reading this book, the average rating was 4.38, now the rating is 4.28. It is brand-new book, published in March.
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book? No, people's tastes are different.

In The Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken
- What is the current average rating of the book?
4.4
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
Not usually, unless a book I am considering has absolutely abysmal ratings, and that may cause me to move it to the bottom of my list. :)

- What is the current average rating of the book? 4.58
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book? Not really. I go more by what some of the reviews say, although I try not to let those influence me too much. Some people may love a book and some will hate it. My book selections are more about how interesting the subject matter sounds and if there are not too many 1* ratings associated with it.

First Love, First Lie
- What is the current average rating of the book?
Before I rated it, it had a 5. Now it has a 4 :-/
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
Yes I do but times like this remind me that I have to take reviews with a grain of salt. This book's reviews were WAY off the mark.

- What is the current average rating of the book? 4.39
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book? I sometimes do but sometimes I don't if I really wanna read the book.

Buddha Da by Anne Donovan
What is the current average rating of the book?
3.70
Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
A high rating certainly inspires confidence, but no I usually look at other factors first.

The current rating for the book is 4.54 with over 4,000 ratings. I sometimes take ratings into account.

I read Skin Game
- What is the current average rating of the book?
4.55 stars
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
Not particularly. Only if I'm on the fence about a book. Like, if I saw the title or cover somewhere, or if the synopsis sounds a little too cliched, and I need another opinion.

How the Light Gets In
- What is the current average rating of the book? 4.41
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
Yes and no...There are many other criteria I use before I look at the ratings. They are so subjective. I have a friend who rates every book she reads a 5. Really?! Everyone has a different way of seeing a book, so the rating is the last thing I look at. However, I am trying to read a better class of book. So the rating needs to be considered. I am looking more at literary fiction than I have in the past.

My Melancholic Diary by Iva Kenaz
- What is the current average rating of the book?
4.82
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
If im interested in buying a new book I will use the ratings and probably avoid anything under 3.0

- What is the current average rating of the book? 4.48
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book? Rarely, if I like description of the book I'm going to read it.

The Story of We
- What is the current average rating of the book?
4.71 (based on 8 ratings)
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
It figures in. I also use the ratings to 'unchoose' a book!!

Golden Son
- What is the current average rating of the book?
Currently it is sitting at 4.47. I think it was 4.52 when I added it to my list.
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
Definitely. They play a part in whether or not, or sometimes how quickly I pick up a book. Bad ratings won't necessarily stop me from reading a book, but generally I tend to choose books that have at least a 3* rating. I want to enjoy what I read, so I appreciate the ratings. I also read a number of reviews and make sure to read at least a few of both positive and negative to try and get a balanced perspective before adding or discounting a book.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
It was the highest rated book on my TBR that was not in the middle of a series
- What is the current average rating of the book?
4.35 with 1,080,523 Ratings
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
Not really I usually don't see the rating until I start the book or have finished the book.

Dragonfly in Amber
- What is the current average rating of the book?
It is currently 4.3 although it was higher when I first added it.
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
I don't because I've seen people give some of my favourite books hideous ratings. Everyone's taste is different, for example I'll be giving this book 3 stars.

The Three Fates by Kate Quinn
- What is the current average rating of the book?
4.11
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book
Yes I ignore if it's below 3 stars, if above I take with a pinch of salt. I rated this book 3 stars!

What is the current average rating of the book? It's presently at 4.60. It's gone up since Joy read it, apparently.
Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book? They're not the only thing I use to determine whether or not I read a book but I'd be lying if I said they don't play any role in my book selection. I'm most likely to be swayed by the rating of friends than of the GR average.

The Road Home. I loved it,too, although it was so painful to read.
- What is the current average rating of the book?
4.55 (383 ratings altogether)
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
Yes, I take them into account, when the books has been on the market for a while (especially the ratings of reviewers whose opinion is often compatible with mine). But there are some books which I really, really love, which do not range paricularly high (i.e. One Whole and Perfect Day, Chime ...). that shows that there is no formula to follow in order to find my next favorite.

- What is the current average rating of the book? 4.49
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book? Not so much. If it has a seriously bad rating, I probably wouldn't bother.
I had to wait a LONG time for this book to finally come out and then be available at the library.

I'm reading It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover.
- What is the current average rating of the book?
The rating is 4.59.
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
I don't use it to choose books, but I do glance at it, and tend not to read anything below 3.5.

Consider the Blessings by Thomas S. Monson
What is the current average rating of the book?
4.75
Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
I usually don't use ratings, unless it's a book I've never heard of. Mostly, I go by reviews and recommendations of friends. Also, I have a former college roommate that has since led a very different life than I have. We are GR acquaintances but usually if she rates a book 5 stars, I have found that I won't like it (and conversely, I tend to really enjoy her 1 and 2 stars). So I do go by her ratings. :)

I don't use the rating as a criteria for selecting a book but do look at it. I also look to see which of my friends have read it and how they rated & reviewed it. I have several GR friends who are AVID readers and whose interests are similar to mine so I do consider their ratings when making choices.

A Constellation of Vital Phenomena, by Anthony Marra

- What is the current average rating of the book?
4.12 (31,313 ratings). I'd already read all the books with higher ratings as part of the challenge!
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
Never, but if I don't like a book I'll have a look to see what the average rating is, and what others thought of it in the reviews.

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
- What is the current average rating of the book?
4.53
- Do you usually use the ratings to choose a book?
Usually I decide whether I want to read a book or not by the blurb. I do perhaps let the ŷ ratings influence me more then I should. I feel like I should not judge a book I'm interested in just because it received a low rating.
