Uvi Poznansky | 901 comments Interview with
Cynthia Woolf
Author of
A romance novel included in

And other books

Cynthia Woolf

Please tell my readers a little bit about your book.

NELLIE is the story of a widow just after the Civil War who becomes a mail-order bride. She is tired of being beholden to her former in-laws for a roof over her head and food to eat. They are always reminding her that if not for the children, she would be on the street. Nellie has two children to provide for and believes the best way to keep them all together is to become a mail-order bride.

I chose San Francisco because a fan asked that I set a series there. I ran a contest to see where the next series would be set and to let one fan make that decision between several choices. Right now I don’t remember what the other choices were.

Describe the genre of this particular title, and is the only genre you write in?

This book is historical western romance, though I think you could also call it historical Victorian romance because there is not a cowboy in sight in this series. I write science fiction/space opera romance as CA Woolf and I’m contemplating starting a contemporary series. Even if the contemporary never sees the light of day, it is good to write different things so I don’t become bored or stagnant in my writing.

When did you start writing toward publication?

I started writing seriously in 1992 but I have always loved story telling. I wrote my first story when I was ten about a little boy I liked at the time. I finally achieved my dream on July 22, 2011 with the publication of Centauri Dawn.

Why have you become a published author?

I became a published author because it is what I always dreamed about doing. When I learned about the Amazon platform, it was like the skies opened up and all my dreams were answered. But it’s not easy. I work about 16-20 hours a day. (I have insomnia so don’t sleep much) and would work all the time but my husband insists that I spend time with him.

What sort of promo do you do? Do you have help?

The only promo I do is Facebook groups and posting there, I tweet A LOT on Twitter. That is my main form of promotion. I also do a Bookbub ad as often as I can get accepted.

What’s next for you?

I have another series starting, Hope’s Crossing, and I just released the first book in the series. It’s called The Hunter Bride and it’s the story of a female bounty hunter who decides to give up hunting bounties and settle down. But her old nemesis breaks out of prison and comes after her.

Uvi Poznansky | 901 comments The way I view my writing projects is this: I see myself, standing on the shoulders of me (the way I was at the end of last project), standing on on the shoulders of me (the way I was at the end of the project before that.) With every new book, I bring all the experience I have gained and take my new project to a higher place. So the newest release--The Music of Us--is based on a lot of research, the way I always do for my historical fiction books, but this time it is the first book that can be classified as romance.

What happened, you ask? What made me change course into a new genre? Well, too things: First, I always enjoy stretching the envelope of what I do, just like in my art, where I do bronze sculptures, oil paintings, watercolors, mixed media, paper engineering and anything beyond that... And second, I was compelled by my characters--

Uvi Poznansky wears a coat of many colors. Originally from Israel where she studied Architecture and Town Planning then moving to the US where she studied Computer Science and became an expert in Software Engineering, Poznansky managed to combine the design elements of two studies into unique formats. And she has accomplished the same with the other side of her brain - making visual her ideas (she is an accomplished painter, drawer, and sculptor who has enjoyed exhibitions both in Israel and in California, her present base) and making words in poetry and in short stories and children's books.

Here she joins eleven other very fine women authors whose works embellish each other while standing very much on their own. The point is, knowing Uvi’s works makes the need to read the works of her colleagues stronger. There are no disappointments in this collection. The authors Tamara Ferguson, Regina Puckett, Suzanne Jenkins, B.J. Robinson, Laura Taylor, Mimi Barbour, Lisa Gillis, Donna Fasano, Traci Hall, Elizabeth Marks, and Cynthia Woolf all have gifts to offer and in tandem they present a very fine collection of contemporary writing about Romance, suspense, fiction and a touch of history, Fine curl p by the fire reading. Uvi Poznansky | 901 comments He walked to her, bending down to kiss her. “I’m eating just fine. Go back to bed after the girls leave, he said, moving toward the door.
“I might, she said. As they walked to the kitchen, she tapped on the older girls doors. Everyone but Devon needed to get up before six during the week. It was still pitch black out, the short winter days getting closer. Harley poured coffee into Jason’s travel mug. He didn’t take the time to hang around in the morning for coffee. She looked out the window over the sink; a stray snowflake drifted by.
“I guess I’m lucky not to have to drive to the city in the snow, she said, handing him his mug.

Uvi Poznansky | 901 comments The breeze blowing across the bay held the chill of true autumn. Derrick had hoped that taking the boat out for a short sail would help to clear his mind. But it seemed that chaos was determined to reign supreme.
He'd told Anna that he was falling in love with her. He'd had no idea whatsoever that he was going to say such a thing when he'd gone into school earlier today. But when she'd ambushed him like she had, announcing that she didn't want to see him anymore, he'd scrambled for some way to change her mind. His declaration of love had been a secret weapon he hadn't even known he'd possessed, until the sentence had tumbled out of his mouth.
After he'd said the words, however, he'd felt glad about it. Glad that Anna knew how he felt.

Uvi Poznansky | 901 comments She blinked her cool blue eyes. He wondered if they’d warm up with passion, or turn an icier shade. “Okay.
“Ask me something. Anything. So we can be even.
Celia put her hand on her hip, her lips pursed with suppressed amusement. “You really are a Sir Galahad, you know? All right. You said you never took the plunge for marriage. Why?
“I was engaged right out of college. She rushed back to New York after her first winter here with no snow. There was more to it, of course, but he didn’t have to share his total heartbreak. The realization that promises of the heart could be broken. The shattering of the illusion, love.
She smiled with compassion. “It was probably culture shock. New York is all about the snow, the parade, and Macy’s. What do you do here?
“Go to the beach. Decorate our palm trees with conch shell ornaments. Santa knows his way to South Florida.

Uvi Poznansky | 901 comments The woman who waved reminded him of his old friend, if only because she had the same beautiful face. Her hair, she’d worn really long as a teen, was now cut shoulder length and hugged her face with dramatic effect. It made him think of models on magazine pages.
With his guts in his throat, he approached and waited for her to take the initiative about their greeting. Why her enthusiastic hug and kisses on both cheeks surprised him, he’d never know. But wrapping his arms around the slight body, feeling her warmth against the ice he’d lived with for so long, started the first melt he’d had in ages.

Uvi Poznansky | 901 comments She reached out from under the covers and took Judy’s hand. It was nice and warm. Her mother always smelled of vanilla, but this morning, she must have tried a new shampoo because the aroma reminded Charity of fresh green apples. “I believe they’re hoping for a white Christmas. I tried to tell them that in this part of Tennessee we seldom see snow this early in the season, but they are still hoping I’m wrong. At least it’s more like Christmas here than at their home in Malibu. With all the leaves off the trees, it looks like winter here. Maybe we’ll get lucky and it will spit out a few flakes while they’re here. It is certainly cold enough today.

Uvi Poznansky | 901 comments Then she laid back in the hot water and closed her eyes, resting.
She awoke to being lifted by strong arms. The water was cold and so was she. Shivering violently, she cuddled into Blake’s warm body.
“Nellie, are you trying to catch your death? That water was freezing.
“It wasn’t wh…when I g…got in, she said, her teeth chattering.
Blake stood her next to the bed, turned down the covers, then got a towel and dried her quickly. He wrapped her hair in the towel, picked her back up and laid her in the bed. She couldn’t stop shaking. He quickly undressed, got in bed beside her, and pulled her into his arms, then covered them both with the blankets.
He was so warm. She buried herself in his warmth, cuddling into him.

Murphy sighed with relief. “Alright.
But suddenly he was much more cheerful. Unable to resist, Murphy slid his fingers through the silky softness of her hair. His fingers gently slipped over to her chin, before running lightly over her lips.
And Kate began to shiver.
His arm tightened over her shoulder. Murphy came even closer still, nuzzling his lips to her brow, feathering soft kisses over her deliciously soft cheek as his mouth made its way over to hers.

Uvi Poznansky | 901 comments Get to know Traci E Hall, author of Ambrosia by the Sea:

First…can you tell me your story of the “road to publication? What’s your journey been like?

My journey in publication has been all over the map. I’ve been traditionally published, self-published, I’ve won awards, I’ve hit the USA Today list, and I’ve been cursed and closed down a few small presses. I write contemporary romance, short contemporary romance, young adult, new adult, non-fiction, historical romance and paranormal. I like to tell stories, in whatever format I can. I love happily ever after, so that is fairly consistent. I feel like I am constantly running to catch up with what is going on in publishing, even though I’m part of many different writing groups to stay on top of things. Ha. The second something is shared on the internet, it’s already old news. But I’ve been writing my whole life, for better or worse, and I can’t stop now.

Are you still working with publishers or are you completely indie now? How do you maintain both in a hybrid career?

I am still technically employed by a small press, but sales for the last book came nowhere near what I do on my own. I have an indie goal in mind 12 contemporary romances in 2 years. I am 4 books in. By the end of book 12, I should have a good idea of whether or not it’s time to retire the laptop. Not that I will I’ll just try another way. For the record, I believe that hybrid authors have a larger chance at success because they have another agency promoting their name and work.

Writing/editing tips

Read your work aloud. It’s amazing the mistakes we can pick up just by listening. Before sending that manuscript in as done, I always print out a copy so that I can ‘see it another way. We miss words because our brains fill in the small stuff, thinking it should be there. Yes, our minds have auto-correct.

Uvi Poznansky | 901 comments The week before Labor Day, Angie would move into her dorm at Penn State. The entire family went along; Jason, Devon, Bea, Michael and Dave would go in Harley’s SUV packed with some of Angie’s things. Joe and Fran would bring Maryanne in their van, also packed solid with more belongings. The girls and their cousins were brining up the rear in Jason’s car. It would be a weekend they would all remember because they were so excited for Angie. After what the family had been through, the sacrifices they’d made, the sadness of Harley losing her life at such a young age, this was finally something they could rejoice over.
After moving her in, the aunts and grandmothers made sure her bed was perfectly made, her clothes put away neatly, doing everything for her they knew Harley would have wanted; they could leave for home in peace.
Tiffany spent an extra half hour preparing for work Tuesday after Labor Day. Labor Day became an icon when Jason told her in early June he couldn’t even think of dating anyone until Harley had been gone at least six months. In June, she’d stuck her neck out, taking a step of faith, and asked him to have dinner with her.
“I’m not ready yet, he said. “It’s too early.
