Anastasia (anastasiaharris) | 1729 comments War horse is such a great book. It is a sad one though, you may want to keep a box of tissues near by. I like how your a using one book for 2 weeks when it is long.

EllenZReads | 172 comments I used the same book a couple weeks in a row for the 2015 challenge...it worked out because the book was so long. I guess it could be considered cheating but I read a lot of other stuff this year that was not on my challenge list, so I went way over the 52 book challenge. My copy of Les Miserables is 800-something pages!

I've read The Little Prince before, both in English and in French when I was studying that language in high school. I have a copy of it but haven't read it in about 20 years!

I have not seen the movie either, but I heard it's a tearjerker...thanks for the tip. :)

Zaz | 2969 comments Great, another What Alice Forgot reader :)
I'll probably start Mistborn in December or in 2016 as I want to read them, so I'll be happy to discuss it with you.

Stargirl was a really interesting book I read this year, it made me think a lot about how I'd deal with a person like her. Coraline was a nice read too.

Marta (gezemice) | 859 comments Great list! I think I am stealing your idea of long book = two weeks :) I was feeling obligated to read shorter books... and Anna Karenina has not made it because of it! Les Miserables - you coukd probably go three weeks with that one... :)

I bought What Alice Forgot in an airport in the event that I finished my other book on a flight and (gasp) was left with nothing to read...I didn't finish the other book and so What Alice Forgot has been sitting on my shelf since last May, waiting for me to pick it up.

I read the whole Wheels Of Time series and since Brandon Sanderson finished the series after Robert Jordan's death, I thought I'd like to try one of his own creations.

Stargirl and Coraline were recommended by friends.

My copy of Les Miserables is 700 something pages...I suspect I won't finish it, even in two weeks, but will make a good effort. I've known the story for many years, my mom was a theater critic and took me to the musical when I was in high school and I love the musical and the movie, but have never gotten around to reading it.

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments Coraline is a wonderful book! I'm reading Les Mis next year too, for the movie week - I love the movie (the recent one), and I love Hunchback, so I am really hopeful that I'll love the book. Especially since it's so damn long ...

message 11: by Aline (new)

Aline (thousanduniverses) | 201 comments The Finale Empire is awesome! I've read it for this year's challenge and loved it!
All the Bright Places is a really good book too :)

L | 127 comments I am reading the Hobbit too! (30-odd years late!). Good idea to spread Les Mis over 2 weeks although I think it took me about 2 months! Victor Hugo was clearly a total genius but could have done with a good editor as he is easily sidetracked e.g. 80+ pages of historical detail on the Battle of Waterloo just to casually introduce a character in the final paragraph! But it is a remarkable piece of work. Enjoy!

Beth | 146 comments The Boys in the Boat was one of my favorite books of 2015. I hope you enjoy it. I'm from Seattle and went to UW, so I may be a little biased, but I think it is a wonderful story.

Thanks for the recommendation--I started reading it for a book club last year and liked what I read in the first couple chapters, but didn't get very far, so I am going to pick it up again.

EllenZReads | 172 comments I'm not really that much of a speed reader--a couple of these books were supposed to be for 2016 but were finished in December. I'm reading quite a bit out of order--the joy of getting most of one's books from the public library and never quite knowing when they'll arrive. I have multiple lists of to-reads so I don't feel bad about being slightly out of sync...
