Luke (korrick) | 2004 comments Ten Days in a Madhouse, Nellie Bly, 1887, United States, NONFICTION

"Nellie Bly, real name: Elizabeth Jane Cochrane, was a kickass lady journalist, who did stuff like report on abuses of the dictatorship running Mexican government (and skedaddle under threat of arrest) and win races around the world in 72 days (with time to stop in on Jules Verne on the way). [...] When the New York newspapers wouldn't give her a job otherwise, Nellie agreed to do a series of articles on the state of women's asylum, by yes, faking her way into one."

M.L. Malcolm | 1 comments There is a FANTASTIC movie about her and the experiences she had in order to write this book, opening Nov. 20th, called, "10 Days in a Madhouse: The Nellie Bly Story." Starring Christopher Lambert (that sexy guy from Outlander) as the warden of the asylum, and a newcomer actress who even LOOKS like Nellie. The previews look great.

Ella (ellamc) I just read this and in trying to find more information, tripped over this at my local library (released this year, 2018) Has anyone else read it? Damnation Island: Poor, Sick, Mad, & Criminal in 19th-Century New York by Stacy Horn
