This is the second book in the Mapped Space series, following on from The Antaran Codex. It can be read independently as all my books are fully self contained novels, although reading Codex first would make sense.

There is also currently a giveaway in progress, ending 31 December.

In Earth's Service (Mapped Space, #2) by Stephen Renneberg

In Earth’s Service greatly expands the Mapped Space Universe and lays the foundations for what is to come.

From the back cover:

An alien colony world, a routine deep cover mission gone wrong, a chance encounter with a mercenary hit squad and the murder of an Earth Intelligence Service agent combine to launch Sirius Kade on a desperate mission to the distant reaches of Mapped Space.

He finds himself embroiled in a complex web of alien technologies, pirates, gun running and stellar intrigue, where ancient galactic enemies and new ambitions vie for supremacy.

While Sirius seeks to unravel a conspiracy threatening to shatter Human Civilization, he discovers Mankind may soon find itself caught in a gathering whirlwind building far beyond the limits of Mapped Space.

As an interstellar minnow among galactic giants, it is a cosmic storm Humanity the youngest space faring civilization in the galaxy may struggle to survive.

So what sets the Mapped Space Universe apart from other SF/Space Operas?

Well, Mankind's place in the universe for one. Rather than being a great power or a galactic empire, the human race is surrounded by much older and more powerful civilizations and can not find its place based on military power. If the galaxy we inhabit is already populated by many interstellar civilizations, then it stands to reason that when the human race becomes an interstellar civilization, it will be at the bottom of a very big heap.

This interests me because it will be the greatest challenged the human race will ever face.

Mapped Space might be fast paced, action oriented adventures, but it is also about man's place in the universe. Not the place we might want, but the place we may be stuck with, whether we like it or not.

The question becomes, how do we make the best of it?
