UF may have some romance in it but the plot revolves around a mystery or the action - and not the outcome of a relationship. There is not always a HEA at the end for the couple.
Anita Blake is acutally Urban Fantasy because there is no HEA. It's a great example of UF with LOTS of sex. Just keep in mind that sex does not equal PNR. It took me a long time to get the definitions and differences down. There are probably people here that can explain it better but that's how I tell the difference.

I recently read Nalini Singh's first guild hunter book and really enjoyed it. I see the Psy/Changeling series mentioned a couple times, has anyone read both? How do they compare?

They are soooooooooo good. Cat and Bones are really a great couple!
So as of right now, this is my favorite books!

But I can't decide on my fave UF--it's a toss up between Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels, Karen Marie Moning's Fever, and Karen Chance's Cassie Palmer.
Althought I'm starting Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series next, and from everyone's comments, looks like I might be adding another to my UF faves. :)

One of my favorites is Kenyon's DH series, but running a close second is Nalini Singh's psy-changeling series.
