Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments It's time to set your 2016 goal! How many books are you going to challenge yourself to read? Create your own discussion topic and tell us what your goal is. Then, throughout the year, track your progress.

How to create your discussion topic for your challenge
- Choose how many books you would like to read
- Go to the appropriate folder:
- 1-50 books
- 51-100 books
- 101+ books
- In the "topic" box, write the name of your topic (it should have both your name and the number of books you plan to read)
- In the comment box, write your first post

And you're all set! Post here if you have any questions.

Good luck to all!

Kathryn | 2 comments I'm looking forward to participating! I'm currently reading a strange and quirky book called The Book of Speculation by Erika Swyler. I just started it so I can't really make a judgement about it yet.

Kiara Hi! I want to put up my challenge in the columns but it keeps saying to verify my email despite the fact that I'm logged in. Can someone help me, please?

Hi Harrison! I am not sure why you are asked to verify, haven't seen that before. Looks like I'm the only moderator online right now, but I will ask when I see they log on to take a look at it :)

Were you able to fix this?

message 20: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Hi :)

I'm curious are short stories considered a book read or do I need to read the full collection to count it as a book for the challenge?

message 21: by Cassandra (last edited Dec 18, 2015 01:18PM) (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Anything that Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ counts as a book works, so if you can find an entry for the standalone short story (like Beyond Lies the Wub), it can count. I've noticed that many short stories don't have an entry, though.

Welcome Sarah! I hope so too, way to many books I'm looking at right now . My mom wanted to know what I wished for christmas and birthday, and I said kindle giftcard would be great. She wanted to give me something I need, but hey don't we need books?!

I just started this book too! It is interesting. I'm only in chapter 3 I think (I'm listening to it).

message 29: by Winter, Group Reads (new)

Winter (winter9) | 4972 comments For those having the verification issue, I would advice asking in the goodreads feedback group as it's likely an issue with goodreads. Hopefully they will be able to help. Can't wait to see your goals!

I'm adding the link here: Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ Feedback Bugs

Feel free to start a new thread.

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) Can't wait to start! :) I am aiming for 100 books.

message 32: by Ornina (new)

Ornina | 40 comments just to get things straight.... the personal challenge 2016 file would only include my personal goal i have set for myself regardless of the yearly/quarterly/monthly challenges i will do throughout the year. those i would write about in 2016 readers corner.... am i right? because i still get confused about the difference between these two folders.

I personally prefer it that way. I use the challenge thread less and my corner more. But it's up to everyone to find the way they like to do it. :)

Hi Kathryn,
I just finished "The Book of Speculation" and really, really liked it!

message 35: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Ornina - I prefer to use my challenge and corner that way, but if you'd prefer to keep everything in one spot, you can do that too! Lots of members do it both ways... It's just about finding what makes sense to you.

Feel free to look at other member's topics to get some ideas!

For anybody having issues with the email verification:

Go to "Your Profile" on GR and click Account Settings
You will see some red text next to your email address (Click to Resend) --> click that
GR will send out a verification email to the email-address specified when you created your account.
Check your email, there will be one from GR with a button to click in order to verify your email address.

This should solve the issue, it's basically an extra security by GR to ensure you're a "real person" and no email bots start creating false accounts.

It's the second tab on your profile, it's called "Settings".

message 42: by Annie (new)

Annie (bionerdannie) | 9 comments I wound up with 248 books for 2015, so I'm going to challenge myself a little more in 2016 and aim for 250.

I have a question about the challenge... I can't remember how I set up my shelf and got the little 2015 challenge tracker. Will the 2016 one come up automatically or do I have to do something fancy to get it set up?

message 43: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments The challenge tracker is provided by Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ. It should show up on the homepage January 1st (Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ is on the PST time zone). You'll have to sign up for it by setting a goal, but after that it's all automatic - as long as the book's date read is in 2016, it will get added to the challenge.

Thanks so much! I was hoping that's what it was :D

message 45: by Merja (new)

Merja (merjafrob) | 488 comments My personal goal is to read 10 980 pages, but since GR asks the amount of books and not pages for the tracker, I guess 30 books is good to start.

message 49: by Heather (new)

Heather | 9 comments How do I set up the Challenge tracker? I have committed to the popsugar 2016 challenge- but I don't quite understand how I set up a member thread and readily keep track of what I am reading?

message 50: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Hi Heather! I'm not 100% sure which thing you're asking about, so I'll try to cover all the bases.

Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ has a reading challenge widget where you can set a goal. Any books that you mark as being read in 2016 (the "date read" field) will be automatically tracked through the widget.

It looks like you have a personal challenge topic set up already. How you use your personal challenge is up to you. I use my personal challenge to post the books I read during the year and my member corner to keep track of my challenges.

Feel free to look around at other members' topics for ideas, and ask if you have any more questions. :)
