Here are some questions to get you started:

- What did you think of Parker? Her perspective on her life, her descriptions of navigating the world or her philosophy on telling it like it is?

- How did you feel about Parker and Scott's complicated relationship? Were you rooting for them?

- One of my favorite moments in the book is when Parker is running tethered on the track. Did you have a favorite moment from the book?

- What did you think of the book overall?

Paula | 6 comments I really liked Parker. I liked that she was honest to a fault and didn't mince words.
I was rooting for Parker and Scott, once I found out what really happened when they were 13. I will admit that I was also a fan of Jason.
I loved the whole scene where Scott rented the tandem bike and they watched Lord of the Rings.
I really enjoyed this book. I love YA, but YA Contemporary can be tough for me to read sometimes. I read this one in one day.

Kris Mauna (krismauna) | 14 comments What did you think of Parker? Her perspective on her life, her descriptions of navigating the world or her philosophy on telling it like it is?

- I really liked Parker. I can see how some people found it hard to relate to her, but I thought she was refreshingly realistic. She's been through a lot, and to me she learned how to be tough on the outside and the way she acted made complete sense. In the end, I loved how much her character developed because she was able to become a better person.

How did you feel about Parker and Scott's complicated relationship? Were you rooting for them?

- I was rooting for them! I really enjoyed their relationship. I remember how important friendships were to me at such a young age, like they were to Parker at 13, and I could see how what happened affected both of them in the way that it did. I loved how all of it was handled throughout the story. It may have been easy for them to forgive each other, but it didn't automatically go away, and it still affected their relationship. I appreciated how real their relationship felt.

One of my favorite moments in the book is when Parker is running tethered on the track. Did you have a favorite moment from the book?

- I loved that moment also! My favorite moment from the book was when Parker got lost while she was walking home from school. I just felt for her in so many ways, and I loved how she was able to rescue herself in that moment.

What did you think of the book overall?

- I really liked this book! I enjoyed the realistic characters, and the writing was fantastic. I found a little bit of myself through Parker's story, and I thought it was great how this was a story about her saving her own self.

I really like how strong Parker is. She has gone through a lot in her life, but she doesn't throw a pity party for herself. Even though it's good to get feelings out, which she eventually did, I think that she took her disability in stride without being negative about it. She has a very "it is what it is" mentality which I admire. Not a lot of people can do that.

Their relationship makes me a little sad and a little frustrated. All "tweens" make mistakes but her anger was justifiable. At the same time her anger was a little over-dramatic but that's typical of that age range. I'm happy she finally sees the little things he's done for her since her father's death. It made me love him even more!

I really liked when Molly guides her around the track. I thought that was an amazing scene and while it made me nervous I was also thrilled with how free Parker seemed. So many people take things like that for granted but the fact that she was able to experience that for herself sort of put it into perspective.

- What did you think of the book overall?

Overall I really enjoyed the book. Most books I read have a shy, "power buried deep down" sort of character that gets pushed around and then find their capabilities. Parker didn't really show that right away, she seemed so capable on her own and then her fragile personality began to show. She saw it as kind of a weakness but her friends helped her see how strong she is.

I thought the author did a great job capturing the problems and situations with being blind. It never occurred to me that he left out normal book protocol throughout the book. For example, the characters weren't really descriptive but I was so drawn in by their personalities, I didn't really need that? It wasn't until Parker said "I still picture Sarah as a 7-year-old" that I kind of thought about it.

Overall, it wasn't a book I would have picked out for myself but I'm really happy with December's book!
