Raeann (broadwaypants) | 100 comments For my "read ALL the graphic novels!!!" challenge, I will be reading all* the graphic novels in my library's collection. The rules are as follows:

1. I must read at least a quarter of the way through each book. If I do not like the book by the quarter point, I may abandon it.
2. Books that are part of a series must be read in order. If my library does not own a copy of the first volume, I need to get ahold of it and read it before reading the ones my library does own.
3. I must read first volumes in their entirety before abandoning an entire series.
4. Superhero graphic novels may be read out of order. They cannot be abandoned due to dislike of a character. They can be abandoned due to dislike of an author.

I swear I'm gonna update these posts soon.

Zaz | 2969 comments If you're interested in buddy reading some graphic novels (not the non fiction ones), I'm here, I usually read 2 per month :D

message 8: by Raeann (new)

Raeann (broadwaypants) | 100 comments Zaz, that'd be great! I feel like I'm always ahead of or behind the curve when it comes to reading them, so people are either done talking about them or haven't even read them yet when I've finished reading.

message 9: by Zaz (new)

Zaz | 2969 comments I read the full volumes, not by issues, so I'm also behind each time, but with the titles you read in 2015 and your ratings, we'll probably enjoy several same titles :)
If you haven't read it yet (and can find it), have a look at Robin: Year One (it made me read the Batgirl one because I loved it!). And everyone on Earth should read I Kill Giants!

Next year, for sure, I'll read Wonder Woman: Earth One Vol. 1 and Star Wars: Princess Leia.

message 10: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (girlvsbook) | 1173 comments All the ones that I'm wanting to read in 2016 I feel like Zaz has already read. The panel by panel reading style is still not very fluid to me so I struggle to maintain interest in graphic novels. I'm really trying to keep at them though because the ones I did read in 2015 had fantastic stories and maybe, with a little practice, I would find the reading style more fluid.

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Thanks Zaz, I just wanted to read a graphic novel, I'm going to check I Kill Giants out.

message 12: by Raeann (new)

Raeann (broadwaypants) | 100 comments Womp womp, I thought I replied to this already...

I'm definitely going to read Robin: Year One. I loved the Batgirl one, so if they're at all similar I know I'll like it. I'm adding I Kill Giants and Star Wars: Princess Leia to the list, too! I'm super picky about Wonder Woman books (she's my favorite and nobody writes her properly) but I'll take a look at that one, too!

Emm, I found it was really hard to get used to the panel style at first, too. What worked for me was just reading more graphic novels until I got used to it. It took a while, because most books with pictures aren't formatted that way, so even those used to reading picture books won't be able to transition easily. But if you stick with it you'll definitely get used to it!

message 13: by Aglaea (new)

Aglaea | 369 comments I was a bit confused at first when reading Saga vol 1. Then I thought I'd try to change my perception of 'words only' into 'work of art with a few words scattered here and there'. Now I expect to find the words in 'odd' places, and it helped with vol 2.

Marta (gezemice) | 859 comments Raeann, this is an amazing list of graphic novels, I did not know they are not all about men in capes... I am checking them out. I gotta get some of these!

Haha, that's not even the full list... thanks for accidentally reminding me I need to finish it. If you're looking for the opposite of caped crusaders, definitely check out Noelle Stevenson's stuff! Her stuff is really clever and funny and all about girl power without being obnoxious about girl power.
