It was a free ebook on Amazon! And it was a fantasy based universe that features a young LGBT protag. I really enjoyed it. There is to be four books in total in this series. And I do plan on continuing the series.
It is a interesting mix of fantasy and politics. The romance isnt prominent thing but it is there. It is very sweet.
4 Stars. Easy read. I read it in one afternoon.

This was a read inspired by a patron who ordered in this series to read. I read it and I can understand how she blew through the series.
Its steampunk London. And the two Agents Eliza Braun (Aussie) and Agent Wellington Books (Londoner) are forced together after Eliza saves Wellington through a rather explosive manner.
Shenanigans ensue because Wellington is an Archivist and Eliza..... is not. They uncover a plot, of course, and save the day.
There are a lot of crumbs left in this book to lead you to read the next there are parts Eliza and Wellington mention that make you want to learn more about them. This book is more of a mystery. I think eventually Eliza and Wellington as supposed to get together but the first book is building on their budding partnership and setting up for the future books.
4 Stars. Has a very matter of fact story telling reminiscent of Gail Carrigers "Soulless"

This sounds very good - and it's not just because I am an archivist!

Inspirational Historical Romance
Easy read. A bit of mystery though at parts it jumped. Very sweet romance with the religious message of forgiveness of both ones self and the dead.
Read via the app 3M, provided by the State Library of Kansas.
3 Stars.

Urban Fantasy series with a witch bounty hunter, Rachel Morgan, navigates the troubles that have been popping up due to both her personal life and the jobs she keeps getting stuck with.
Basically stuff from the last book is affecting events in this one and shits hit the fan with werewolves, vampires, witches, & demons. Its great fun and I suggest the series to everyone.
4 Stars. Quick read with an interesting world.

Yet another book set in Steampunk Victorian London. BUT. There is a disease afoot that if affected will turn the person into the opposite sex or kill them. It is called the Constantine Affliction.
The book follows Pimm & Ellie. Pimm is an aristocrat who likes to drink and solve gruesome mysteries on the side while Ellie is a reporter trying to find the next scoop while navigating a world that is not friendly to young single women who have no family.
Their paths cross and they use what the other knows to help out their current problem.
The main thing about this book is that it took a good 50 pages for me to warm up to it. Also the issue with Constantine Affliction & how its symptoms & how it spreads pretty much mimic AIDS & HIV. Then the whole entire issue of those affected dealing with their new gender. Lots of potential with this world, felt it wasnt used to the fullest though the action and the interaction we did get with those affected were good.
3 & half stars/ 4 Made me think about world building. Thats for sure.

Fantasy YA Novel.
Follows the former assassin Celaena who is pulled from her sentence in the quarries by the prince of the nation to fight as the next champion of the country. However, the country is one that Celaena hates because it is a war monger but will do anything to gain her freedom & return home.
Celaena makes friends and enemies and comes across an ancient power that seeks to kill those in its path.
This book is very much a set up book as there is to be 6 books total in the series, there are 4 out.
4 Stars. Very engaging. Has been on my to-read list since it came out few years ago. Read it basically in one night. Will finish the series.

Its a Harlequin historical romance.
It actually wasnt all that smutty mostly pining and with disguises and investigative journalism that could only take place in South Dakota during 1800s. It wrapped up rather nicely like all Harlequins do & they had their steamy moments. It was all rather sweet.
4 stars. very quick read. read in a couple hours, grabbed it from our Paperback Swap. The funniest thing was that the previous reader had crossed out all the "damns" in the book. Snort

So. This book. It's Future Sci-fi? Basically Humans began experimenting with DNA it got outta hand now once in a while a person will be born then in puberty start getting animal characteristics. But the story follows a woman who can change her gender at will and they are called Traders. She ends up having twins from a relationship gone wrong and she lover her two babies but since they both Traders, they are wanted for varies purposes.
The Twins are kidnapped and our heroine goes on this journey to get them back. The POV jumps between different characters to give us more understanding to the world and the players in it but that aspect of it actually made we slow down reading it.
The Heroine isnt perfect and she has to battle self doubt and frustrations at the world. So I liked that about her.
3 stars. Interesting world, but wont read the sequel. Writing style was floaty? for me.

Open Book Club Book for April
Really enjoyed the whole gaming/80s culture thing going on in this game. I also again am fascinated with deep dive or immersion gaming. Though its always a thing once people do this, they leave their "real world" for the virtual one. But in this one, people turn to it cuz the world is shit compared to in the Pendragon series its because everyone just became consumed with living in the virtual world.
I really enjoy this concept of the hunt. Which was basically a famous nerd basically saying like all the things I did and know them and you can inherit my fortune!!!! I like all the random trivia that I learned as well.
4 stars. Am going to read Clines newest book "Armada" which looks to be more gaming nerd fun.

Average of 4 stars. A couple were 5 and a couple were 3
I reached my goal!!! WOOT. And this list is backwards because.... Im lazy. Anyways~ if you are curious about a book let me know and Ill give my opinion to you!!
The goal is to read 30. But I hope to leave that number in the dust.
First book I read/listened to of 2016 was "The Martian" by Andy Weir. Which incidentally is the first book club book of the year.
I enjoyed it a lot and I even laughed a few times when listening.
It is science fiction but at the same time very possible space future. I always love well done diary entry books as well as other forms of communication.
The movie goes along with the book nicely, but the movie actually is a lot nicer to Mark Watney than the book. With the book, you feel like he could die with the movie, there wasn't ever that feeling. I dont know if that was because I read the book or because they left out two major incidents that Mark experienced on Mars. But anyway, Read or listen to the book. Well worth it. 4 stars.
