The other book I finished was for the around the year challenge. I'm 6/52 books for that and only 5/41 for pop sugar.
I'm on the wait list for my romance books - its discouraging that everyone had negative things to say about the J.D. Robb books. I said in the romance thread that I'll either read that or the Selection series. Which ever comes in first is the one I'll go with. Even if its not the Selection series I'm still going to read that for other prompts.
My current read is my NY Bestseller - I picked See Me and I like it a lot so far.
Can I just ask how the heck we are at week 6 of 2016 already?! Wowza, time is flying by! I guess its true what they say - time flys when you're having fun ;)

1. Call the Midwife - a book from the library. All of my books are from the library so I wanted to use this one up early so I didn't cheat and finish an easy one later in the year.
2. Everything, Everything - a book you can finish in one day. I loved this book and highly recommend it!
3. Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic - a graphic novel. I now know that I am not a fan of graphic novels. I struggled to get through this one.
4. Me Before You - a book being made into a movie.
I won't post all my books every week, just thought I would for my first post!

The Coincidence of Coconut Cake
In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex (which was going to be my National Award winner)
I am working on Choose Joy: Finding Hope and Purpose When Life Hurts, but my progress is slow. This is why I rarely read nonfiction books.
I am also listening to Bossypants, but I'm really not enjoying it. I know, I know, I'm probably the only person on the planet who doesn't like it, but there it is :) It will fulfill a book written by a comedian which was going to be one of the hardest categories for me.
Not sure where I'm going to go next. I have a book on hold at the library and one on the way. Will probably start reading those soon.

I felt the same way about Go Set a Watchman! It took me so long to get into it and when I finally did, I was thrown the opposite way again. Just not what I remember To Kill a Mockingbird was written like. Kind of ruined it for me as well.

This week I finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo for a book that is translated to English. I am currently reading Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail for a book recommended by a family member and The Host for a romance set in the future.
Currently I am 6 out of 41 prompts complete! Happy reading everyone!! :)

The second book I read this week was The Selection (romance set in the future), which I already gave a short review of in the "I Finished" thread for the February challenge. In short, I really enjoyed it.
That leaves me at 9/41 for the challenge, 9/52 for my overall goal for 2016.

I also finished A Clockwork Orange for the book I haven't read since high school. After a slow start it got much easier to read once I'd internalized all the Nadsat words. At high school I didn't have a version with a dictionary, so had to muddle my way through!
I'm going to read Oryx and Crake for my sci-fi romance, though I'm not reading much this week because of deadlines and new job stress.
I made the mistake of asking 2 members of my family for book recommendations (for the 'family member' prompt) so I have 5 books to choose from, yikes!

I'm I the only one who feels they put too many autobiographies/memories/celebrity tasks in this years challenge: 15. A book written by a celebrity, 16. A political memoir, 28. A book written by a comedian, & 35. An autobiography. I think, just one would have been enough. I really do not enjoy these types of books ugh 2 down and 2 to go.
13. A self-improvement book- Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop TalkingSusan Cain 2/6/16
23. A book that is published in 2016- The Bands of Mourning by Brandon Sanderson 2/6/16
28. A book written by a comedian-Yes Please by Amy Poehler 2/9/16

I'm waiting on Go Set Watchman. I loved to Kill a Mockingbird and I have weird feeling about GSW plus the reviews have not been good.

Jillian, I agree with you. There are too many celebrity related categories on these challenges. I understand that branching out on our reading is part of the goal, but there is a reason why I rarely read celebrity books. I don't particularly like them. I'm almost done with Bossypants by Tina Fey. While I can appreciate her intelligence and humor at times, mostly I'm just bearing with it for the challenge. I could be using my time reading something I truly enjoy, but books written by comedians aren't it.

14. A book you can finish in a day: Rainer Maria Rilke, Notes sur la mélodie des choses , Allia, 2006 (publication initiale 1898).
36. A book about a road trip: John Steinbeck, Travels with Charley: In Search of America , Penguin, 1986 (1st ed. 1962).
That's 11 on 41. Many books started but unfinished!

[x] 10. A New York Times bestseller - The Kite Runner
It puts me up to 16/41.

I made a lot of progress this week, and - most importantly! - I really enjoyed (most of) what I read. (Unfortunately I'm using the mobile app so I can't link the books). I'm now 11/41
A Short History of Everything (Bryson) - I read this for the "self-improvement" category (but it would also work for "blue cover"), because those "live your life better" books are not my thing, but learning more about history & science is! I'm an engineer so I'm pretty well-versed in basic science, and at first this book irritated me with its "aw shucks math is hard!" attitude, but I finally got past that and I really really enjoyed this. It's packed full of fascinating tidbits about the lives of many different scientists.
The Dream Thieves - "set during summer." This is the second book in Stiefvater's Raven Boys series, and I can't really say that I'm loving the series, but I do love listening to Will Patton read them to me, so I will absolutely finish the series (audiobook all the way for this one).
Naked in Death (Robb) - "romance in the future" I really did not like this book.
The Talented Mr Ripley (Highsmith) - "20th century classic" - Five stars! Great big love for this book! I'm only sad that it took me this long to read something by her.

A book over 600 pages - A Feast for Crows - finished!
A book with a blue cover - The Left Hand of Darkness - finished!
New York Times bestseller - Gone Girl - just started, and super excited.

Finished Warm Bodies for Romance Set in the Future/February Challenge.
I'm currently about 2/3 of the way through Eleanor & Park for either YA Bestseller or NYTimes Bestseller.

I finished I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban for my political memoir. I also made it about 1/3 of the way through Across the Universe for my romance set in the future.

I could've finished Winter this week, but needed a break from the constant reading. My kids were complaining that I was reading too much. LOL
I also realized that I have as much fun finding books to fit the prompts as I do reading them. :)
So I'm at 14/41 on this challenge.

Currently reading LOTR as my book previously abandoned. After that, I plan to do the Feb challenge

Also read Saga, Volume 1 earlier for the graphic novel, and ended up reading all - just finished with volume 5.
For my other challenge I read The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde.
I am currently reading Treks Not Taken, a really fun spoof of Star Trek Next Generation episodes in the style of famous authors. There is The Crusher In The Rye, The Vampire LaForge, One Beamed Onto The Cuckoo's Nest... lots of fun. I am going to put it into either the library book category or satire.

Delirium was a good book, and I enjoyed it overall although I wasn't a huge fan of the writing style. It reminded me a bit of how I felt about Divergent -- good story, but could have been written better.

Last week I completed Go Set a Watchman for a book with a blue cover. I do not recommend it for those of you who are considering reading it. I felt as if I betrayed Harper Lee by reading what was clearly an unfinished work. The first 200 pages took me four days to read. The final 70 pages I read in an hour and a half because they were so compelling and well done.
I am now at 9/41 for the year. How about you?
We've had 12 people complete the February challenge "a romance that takes place in the future." And there's still plenty of time for you to get in on that if you are so inclined. Heck, you even get an extra day this Leap Year.
