Here is my shelf.

I'm avoiding grading math homework by counting UNO cards :) I'm sure my students will understand!

If anyone has ideas about tracking, let me know. Karen just sent me a copy of the tracking spreadsheet she is using for her team - she said it worked really well last year. We can use to record the several catagories books fit into - so that if we need to move things in the main spreadsheet around, it shouldn't be too bad. I'll put a link to it with the team shelves. I'm not sure exactly how the spreadsheet sharing works - I am pretty sure you can all see it - not sure who besides me at the moment can edit it. But I'll try to figure that out .

But if you don't want to plan that far ahead, that is fine too!

But if you don'..."
Here is my spreadsheet that I'm adding my potential books to. None of them are set in stone, but it will help me decide what I should grab for our open cards. I'm a quick reader and have tons of time to listen to audiobooks. I'm also pretty flexible when it comes to my reading, so I should be able to fill most cards that others don't claim. :)

I'm glad we snagged you, even though you have the perfect Scooby Doo name :)

Me too! :)
I'm sure they will understand lol

Awww Kelsi & Suzanne so sad we aren't on the same team again :(
Hope you have fun!!

Hahaha addicted?! Who me?!?! :D
We did work well together so we'll just have to keep an eye out in the future! Though we are still playing others right now :P
And Hi Daphne!!

*waves wildly*
I hope we can be on a team together again someday too. :)

And here's my shelf: Laila's shelf

*waves frantically at Laila*
So happy to see be teamed up with you again! We are both trying our hand at co-captaining this game. I think we'll do swimmingly with Suzanne at the helm.
I've been building up my go to shelves to have a nice selection of books available for me to pick from once we start. I've probably gone a bit crazy with my spreadsheet, but it's like a mini-game for me I suppose.
So, hypothetically, I could cover ALL of our 5 V/#7 books if needed. I've got 19 books atm that I'm keen to read that will work. I've got 16 books for sure that will work for our letter E/8th too. A quick look at Suzanne's shelf gave me at least 6 books that she's already read and are on my TBR pile (most are the Mistborn series that I've been meaning to pick up anyway). I'm actually in the middle of the Graphic Audio version of the first Mistborn book, and digging it while I drive around to my stores at night. It's super atmospheric listening to it while surrounded by fog and all by myself on the roads.
I'm more than happy to be the person that works around everyone else's reading to finish our decks. My library and access to books is rather large, and I love being pushed out of comfort zones with genres and subjects. That's why I dig challenges so much. :)

No patience required with co-captaining, etc. since...it's a game - it's supposed to be fun, and I'm sure we'll all have lots to figure out as we go along.
Laila and Daphne, if you get a chance, can you check if you can edit the book tracking spreadsheet? It is . And really, that spreadsheet is for anyone on the team who feels like using it, so ....speak up if you do!
I'm pretty good at putting things into spreadsheets and I'm happy to do it because it's kind of fun. But I'm pretty new at the sharing part, and for sure it'd be good if you have the ability to fiddle. :) Oh and notice on row 109, it tracks how many books we need/have for each task in March.
One thing I found out is that if we need to move around books in our March hands, that is fine until the end of March - then after that, they are set and we get whatever points we have, along with our new April hands. You might have already known that, but...it made me happy, because it means we can put books where we think will work best, but also move them.

I can't edit the Wizard books sheet. I do have access to our official one though. :)
I'm so glad we have you leading us Suzanne. It's going to be great having someone who knows the rules and the little stuff that can be missed inadvertently.
I'm thinking of visiting some of the Oz books for the challenge. I've read several, but it seems fitting given our team.
Has anyone else read any books in the Oz series?

I'll ask Karen about the Wizard books sheet - I think she is the "owner". But worst case, I'll just keep it updated and as long as you can see it you can put books in the official hands.
GREAT idea about reading the Oz series. I read most of them when I was a kid, and I've read several as an adult. They are definitely written for children, but the ideas in them are SO imaginative, which makes them fun. I think I bought the complete collection when I first got my Kindle - well it was either really cheap or free - so I may join you in that.

Also, when it comes to reading I don't really plan ahead more than a week or two. I usually just see what criteria I need to meet for all the various challenges I do and go from there. Last year when I did this challenge, I checked to see what tasks still needed to be done and picked from there so I don't mind doing that this year as well.
Daphne - I've never read any of the Oz books. I have read Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, which completely altered the way I see the whole story now.

Daphne - I LOVE that you've done that with your spreadsheet! And thanks for being so flexible - it's fantastic you have books that will work for everything - phew! A little bit crazy? No way =) I agree - its like a mini-game :) I like the way you think!

And I know from being on a team with Kelsi that she is super helpful with all of the reading goals.
I'm excited to meet Caitlyn, Denise, and Victoria.

Anyway, I'm really excited for this challenge! Thank you again Laila for suggesting it and I'm really happy I ended up on the same team as you and Daphne!
I have a few books in mind that I want to read, but I have a tendency to grab books at random with what fits my current mood. I do think I will read The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. I bought the book years ago and never got around to reading it, but I'm rather motivated to read it given our team name. I have read Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West (and seen the musical three times) and Son of a Witch, which, like Laila, altered the way I see the story.

I like the mood method of reading books - I'm kind of a mix - I make a list...but then choose based on my mood (and not always from the list).
That said, Daphne - I took a look at your spreadsheet - it's beautiful! You truly can cover any holes.

...wow - that was quite corny. ;)

13 decks with 7 cards each = 91
Subtract 5 for the five Draw 2 cards = 86
5 books can be used for double goals with Draw 2 = 81
Is that the correct way to figure it Suzanne?

Anyway, I'm really excited for this challenge! Thank you again Laila for suggesting it and I'm really happy I ended up on the s..."
I did a quick look at the Oz books on arbookfinder and they all have 35k-50k words, so they can be used for the challenge if any of us decide to read them. :)

I won't be surprised if by the end of the day I have a calendar crossing off days 'til we can start :)
I'll send a PM to Denise and Caitlyn to be sure they know that the yellow brick road exists :)

I haven't planned my books yet, I haven't read much this year and have gotten behind in my challenges so will probably have to find some things that overlap. I have tons of series on the go though so it shouldn't be too hard to find series books.
Daphne I requested access to your spreadsheet, I am curious to see what you have planned!
Cathy, it sucks you aren't on our team. Hope you enjoy the game anyways! Thanks for coming to say hi :)

The rest are also very inexpensive or free, and the audiobooks are also very inexpensive (free if you use librivox)

Good point - the Oz books would definitely work for the reverse cards. I have the feeling those will be easy because we have a lot of previously read books in our arsenal.

Also, if you put a book in there and decide not to read it - no big deal! Just delete it - there's no contract :)

Edit: I just looked at your books - thought about how many of them I'd like to read too, and put my name in the Reverse column for the 3 I've read - hope that's ok.

Sounds good! I will be sure to save those ones for next month, just in case we really need the reverse cards (I don't think we will have too much trouble with that one, but just to be sure!)

I'm going to avoid putting stuff on our Wizards of Oz spreadsheet and just use my own. I have the highest book read count, so I think it will work best for others to use, and I figure out what we are still going to need and read around that.
Very happy that we seem to be a chatty crew. It gets lonely when not many in the group seem to enjoy chatting.
What is everyone's favorite genres btw? Any serious series readers?
My favorite genres are non-fiction and fantasy. I also enjoy a good magical realism because they seem to be some of the most lyrical books that can evoke deep reactions and emotions. One of my favorite writes from that genre is Angela Carter. She can turn a mad phrase.
I've been getting into more series the last couple years. I'm slowly but surely trying to collect as many of the Forgotten Realms books in audio that I can. I really enjoy that world, and the Drizzt series were some of the first books that introduced me the fantasy world. I have a very soft spot for the special Dark Elf snowflake.
