My current book:

Lost by Ker Dukey

I'm at 38% and really loving this one so far. It's dark, erotic and suspenseful. It's a cat and mouse serial killer kind of story :D

Azbaqiyah | 96 comments Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Harry Potter, #5) by J.K. Rowling

ghost story. obviously. if you look at the cover. a lot of explanations on how they capture ghost on camera but kinda cool.
teens being ghostbusters and parental approval to gain.
100 pages more to finish.
it's a race against time 'cause they got like 7 days to live

One Day Soon by A. Meredith Walters

This one hurt in a good way. I'm always looking for ugly crying books. This one not to that extend but really sad.

message 14: by Neenee (new)

Neenee | 95 comments I was in a book slump and it's quite hard to shake it off this time. Fortunately managed to get out. I thought it's going to be forever!!!

Just finished Persuasion Persuasion by Jane Austen by Jane Austen. Such a marvelous book. I liked it more than Pride and Prejudice.

I am scouring my TBR pile for the next book. Honestly I am quite scared that I might fall into the slump again.

I'm sipping on One by One (Robert Hunter, #5) by Chris Carter , followed by An Evil Mind (Robert Hunter, #6) by Chris Carter , and ultimately I Am Death by Chris Carter

Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows, #2) by Leigh Bardugo

I don't read YA or fantasy and I end up reading YA fantasy lol!
My friends who love this genre rave about this series so much so I thought hell, why not?

I am loving it. Though the length is killing me because I'm not a fast reader haha!

message 22: by Henk (new)

Henk | 99 comments Speechless by Tom Lanoye

Memoir of a writer's youth in Flanders and his shock when his aging mother loses her power of speech following a stroke. Interesting, hilarious and touching all in one.

Been hearing good reviews about this series, wanted to add to my TBR but then I already have a mountain pile waiting... XD

Henk | 99 comments just finished The Fall of Arthur by J.R.R. Tolkien , now starting in Even Dogs in the Wild (Inspector Rebus, #20) by Ian Rankin .

I love Tolkien, no matter what he writes. It's sad he abandonded so many of his poems. It's been a long time since I read any Rankin, will give me a nice change of pace.

message 26: by Wayne (new)

Wayne Lai | 7 comments Just finished Radio Free Albemuth, now reading The English Patient.

Immediately hooked by the first 5 pages of The English Patient, the writing is so simple yet beautiful.

I'm going to read the English Patient soon. It's been on my shelf for years.

message 28: by Azimah (new)

Azimah Othman | 60 comments After a quick review/reread relevant chapters of Tamerlane, am continuing with the Shadow Princess by Indu Sundaresan. Not too far from the end now and the pace of the novel is also picking up. This is actually the third of a trilogy and it begins with the death of Mumtaz Mahal. Since then I have managed to obtain the first 2 books and they are waiting in line....! If you like history, you'll love this.

message 29: by Henk (new)

Henk | 99 comments Finished my Rebus already. Rankin as i like him, interesting enough plot but without crazy twists and nicely drawn characters. On to The Sellout after the weekend.

message 30: by Henk (new)

Henk | 99 comments The Sellout was nice. A bit too dense for my taste but interesting. I just finished The Goldfinch, which I found rather disappointing. The characters simply don't make much sense to me.

Now picked up a few books on the Boer War. History time!

message 31: by Wayne (new)

Wayne Lai | 7 comments Just finished reading Lord Jim, definitely not an easy book to read, much more challenging than The Sound and the Fury I feel, now reading The Tortilla Curtain when I'm on the go, and Thus Spake Zarathustra when I'm at home.

Oh no, totally different. I name-dropped it because it's really difficult to read as well.
It was originally to be a part of the author's collection of short stories but it was rejected, only got published recently.

message 37: by Henk (new)

Henk | 99 comments Finished Quicksand by Jun'ichirō Tanizaki . A short novel on an entangled love situation. I enjoyed it a lot.

KeepReadingKai (kailantrophyreads) | 1 comments Currently reading at the moment. I'm doing a #HarryPotterBookProject right now where I would read one Harry Potter book each month follow by watching the related movie. Just for fun. A much needed marathon for an amazing franchise. Plus, it gets me up to date with the differences between the movie and the book being as I'd easily forget some parts happening (differently) between the two.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Harry Potter, #1) by J.K. Rowling

message 39: by Wayne (new)

Wayne Lai | 7 comments Just finished The Death of Ivan Ilych. A powerful short story that talks about death.

I did exactly what you are doing and it took me about eight months, no kidding, I was like drowning in the Harry Potter World for the year 2016. As much as I wanted them to hit me like how it hits me in the movie, but the books hit me less. Nonetheless, it was a happy reading following the stories of the trio and my favourite would be the Prisoner of Azkaban and The Deathly Hallows. And a warm welcome to you into the Harry Potter World/ Family!

A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1) by Sarah J. Maas

So I finally succumbed to temptations.
My YA reading friends are crazy about Rhysand so I have to check it out myself if he's really all that haha!

message 42: by Henk (new)

Henk | 99 comments Oops, didn't update here for too long. Read a couple of books but fell behind my target a bit.

Just finished The Fifth Woman. Now reading Skagboys and listening (in the car) to Het leven van Maurits Lijnslager eene hollandsche familiegeschiedenis uit de zeventiende eeuw.

As might be expected from an early 19th century book, the (Dutch) audiobook is dragging. It fails to engage me, so I think I will pass on parts 2,3 and 4.

Welsh is his usual foulmouthed self. Haven't got very far in the book but so far it's ok though I find it hard to relate to the characters. Their passive and defeatist attitude are alien to me and I also was alive in the 80's, though one might argue I was more privileged than them.

Azimah Othman | 60 comments I am back grappling with the Mughal Empire. After completing the "Taj Mahal Trilogy" by Indu Sundaresan, a month long in the pit just watching tv 😎 and feathering my lair 😋 I am rediscovering the books again. I had, by chance stumbled across "Brothers at War" volume #2 of the quintet, "Empire of the Moghul" by Alex Rutherford, in Dec last and it had remained on the shelf till now . Today,I discovered there exists a #6...🤔 !!

I have several books by Dalrymple William which I found to give a nice description of the Indian region. Some of his books cover the Mughal period.

Henk | 99 comments Just finishedDe kleine Johannes in Dutch. I have read it for school ages ago but I didn't get it then. Now I think I understand it better. It's about the pain of being/becoming a human. (It's translated in English as The Quest, by the way)

message 48: by Henk (new)

Henk | 99 comments Just finished Perburuan. It's Pramoedya Ananta Toer's first book, written in jail during the Indonesian independence war. Is he a known writer in Malaysia?

message 49: by Azimah (new)

Azimah Othman | 60 comments Midstream I got myself a newly launched book by ninotaziz Kirana : Dreams after the Roses. l love the storytelling ... smooth flowing. I have passed the book on to my grand daughter. I am sure she would enjoy it too. It is Ramdhan now. Reading has slowed down....sleep beckons so much more easily.... hehehe!
