If you’re new here, please say hello on our introduction thread.

What is Vaginal Fantasy?
Vaginal Fantasy is a book club which primarily focuses on female-centric genre fiction, usually with romantic, historical, science fiction, fantasy, paranormal, or supernatural elements. Still confused? Watch the

Where did the name come from?
Felicia Day coined the term "vaginal fantasy" when she first got a Kindle and could purchase "smutty" books without embarrassment. The name of the group was meant to be a tongue-in-cheek nod to the romance genre. By including the word "vaginal" in the name it was meant to demonstrate that the club would be unapologetically about female-centric novels in genres (sci-fi, fantasy, etc.) whose authors and central characters have been, until recently, overwhelmingly male.

Is this club just for women?
Absolutely not. Many of our members are men. Also, we strive to be inclusive. The group will occasionally read M/M and F/F romance. You can find a list of LGBT* romance on the LGBT* Vaginal Fantasy listopia.

When does the club meet?
The group picks a new book each month and we discuss it on the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ forums and on Discord. At the end of the month, there is an online text discussion on our Discord. The monthly hangouts with the hosts have been discontinued due to increased time demands and scheduling conflicts.

Where can I see previous hangouts?
Hangouts are currently archived on the group’s or you can find them on the .

Where can I find the books you talk about?
Current picks are always on the group’s home page. You can find lists of the previous picks on the group’s Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ bookshelves or on this page.

Who picks the books?
It varies. In the past, main picks were most often chosen by Felicia Day. Veronica Belmont, Kiala Kazebee, and Bonnie Burton. Each would select two or three books per year. Currently the forums vote in a poll to select the monthly pick.

What’s up with the alternate picks?
Because some people may have already read the book, may not have access to it, or just might not be interested, the group sometimes selects an alternate title to read and discuss on the forums. Previously, the alternate was a complement to the main pick and was discussed briefly on the hangout, but mostly due to time concerns, the conversation was moved to the forums exclusively.

Can I suggest a book?
Each month there will be a thread to suggest books to be added to the poll. You can also tell us what you’d like the group to read at Suggested reads for Vaginal Fantasy or add your pick to the Suggested Reads for the Vaginal Fantasy Book Club Listopia.

Can anyone start a new discussion topic?
Yes. You must be a member of the group and treat the other members with civility and respect. Also, it should relate to books, to the genres covered, or to the group itself. Please put your topic in the appropriate folder, and link to any books discussed.

I want to start a new topic. What folder should I use?
Vaginal Fantasy General - The default folder for new topics. Whenever possible, please use the appropriate folder when creating a new thread.
Monthly Pick -This is for all discussions about the current month's picks.
Book Discussion & Recommendation - (Posts are about books.) Broader discussions about genres, tropes, and other aspects of publishing; book recommendations; requests for books in a specific genre, with a kind of character, etc.
Tangents/Off-Topic Discussions - (Posts are NOT about books.) TV, movies, gaming, podcasts, news, merchandise, general discussion, and miscellanea that doesn't fit elsewhere.
Local Hangouts & Meet-Ups - Forum threads for local hangouts, meet-ups, author signings, and conventions.
Games, Humor, & Fan Art - Funny cover art, articles, quizzes, and your own creations celebrating Vaginal Fantasy.
Group Feedback - This folder is for discussions about the group itself.
Writing and Self-Promotion - (Posts are about your books.) Author self-promotion (no spam please/one thread per release or offer), NaNoWriMo, writing tips

I goofed. How do I edit my post?
Scroll down to the bottom of your post. You will see links to edit or delete. This feature is not available on the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ app.

How do I reply to another comment?
Comments appear in chronological order. When you add a new comment, it will appear at the bottom of the thread. If you want to reply to a comment farther up, you can click the reply link at the bottom of that post, and it will quote a portion of it in your answer. This feature is not available on the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ app. You can use the "@" symbol + the person's username to address your comment to them.

How do I use spoiler tags?
Unfortunately there is no easy button to hide spoilers. Type
< spoiler >YOUR SPOILER< /spoiler >
but remove the spaces around the brackets < >. It should look like this if you do it right. (view spoiler)

What are the local hangouts and meet-ups?
Groups of people all around the world have formed their own book clubs to discuss the monthly picks. Some meet in person while others get together online. Felicia gives a shout out to all the groups who have met in the previous month at the beginning of the hangout.

How can I find a local hangout near me?
For people looking for groups to join, you can browse through the Local Hangouts & Meet-Ups folder, use the "search discussion posts" in the sidebar (desktop only) to look for your city/area, check the list on the wiki page, or check this handy . If you can't find one or they haven't met in a while, you can always start your own group.

Where can I find more Vaginal Fantasy?
You can follow Vaginal Fantasy and its hosts on most social media platforms. Links are given on the home page and are catalogued on .

I didn’t see my question.
Leave a comment below, and we’ll get you an answer as soon as we can. (This forum is for general group-related questions only.)

The Vaginal Fantasy Alt Poll FAQ

Where is this poll of which you speak?
Follow the link in the monthly poll thread, or select "polls" on the sidebar. You can also find the current poll embedded way down at the bottom of the Home page.

How do I vote?
If you see a book you like in the list, just click on it and you're done. If the book you want is not on the list, add it in the text field at the bottom. Check the image at the top of the post.

How long do I have to vote?
A thread will go up near the beginning of the month asking for your suggestions which are then added to a poll. Voting starts about two weeks prior to the hangout and ends shortly before the show starts (or the end of the month if there is a hiatus). Vote early to make sure your vote counts.

What happens if there's a tie?
Veronica has decreed that there will be no more ties. Honestly, I wait until the end to cast my vote. If there is a tie, I will break it.

Can I add a book?
The Vaginal Fantasy Alt Polls allow write-in votes. Type the name of the book and the author in the space provided at the bottom of the poll. We'll reformat it so the book appears in the quick access list below the poll. We recommend you only add books longer than 100 pages and with 100 or more Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ ratings.

Can I add a book that I wrote?
The primary purpose of the poll is to select a book that will be of interest to the group, not to be a vehicle for author promotion. Self-nomination is not forbidden, but it is strongly discouraged. Anyone seen as abusing the poll for personal gain will be flagged as spam.

What kind of books can I add?
We focus on female-centric fiction, usually with romantic, historical, science fiction, fantasy, paranormal, or supernatural elements, although occasionally we will read LGBTQIA titles including M/M. Novels and novellas are the most common, however other formats such as anthologies and graphic novels have been suggested before. Try to be aware of availability and excessive cost when selecting a title, as many of our members live outside the U.S., in remote areas, or on fixed incomes. Ideally, your choice should be widely available on paper, as an ebook, and as an audiobook. Library availability is also an asset, so try to avoid anything too obscure.

What happens if I add a book that's already on the list?
Your vote will be deleted. Sorry, but we've had issues with duplicate entries making a mess of polls before. If we catch it in time, you can recast your vote by selecting the appropriate box. We will also try sending you a note, but we may not be able to notify you if you have disabled private messages.

Can I change my vote?
You can change your vote at any time before the poll closes. Click the link at the bottom of the poll.

When should I add a book?
The sooner the better. The longer your book is up, the more time people have to vote for it. Most suggestions in the monthly poll thread will be added when the poll is made. Write-ins that are added in the last few days before the hangout will not get many votes.

How many is too many?
The more books on the poll, the more the vote is split. Something between four to six is a good number. Ten is probably the max. If you see a lot of books, try supporting one of them instead of splitting the vote further. You can add your book next time. Also, in order to be fair to everyone, only one suggestion per person per month, please. If more than twelve valid suggestions are made, write-ins will be disabled for that month.

How can I check to see if the group has already read a particular book?
You can check the group's "read" bookshelf which is the official list of club picks. Also try to avoid authors who have been read recently or multiple times (Authors read more than once by the group already: Ilona Andrews, Nina Bangs, Anne Bishop, Jacqueline Carey, Gail Carriger, Kresley Cole, Grace Draven, Deanna Raybourn, and J.D. Robb.).

Will they talk about ALT book on the hangout?
Probably not. Although the hosts used to discuss both books each month, they've chosen to concentrate only on the MAIN pick due to time constraints. The discussion for ALT books will be online only.

Is there any other place I can make suggestions for group reads?
Check out The List of Lists for links to the various forum threads and listopias. One unread book from the Suggested Reads for Vaginal Fantasy listopia will be automatically added to the ALT poll each month. Also, you can always send ideas to on Twitter.

The Vaginal Fantasy Genre Guide
For the purposes of this group, genres are loosely defined as follows:

Age
Young Adult (YA) - targeted toward or featuring teens or young adults (e.g. 12-25). Less likely to include graphic sexual content although they may be dark or violent.
New Adult (NA) - targeted toward or featuring young adults (e.g. 18-29). More likely to include graphic sexual content.
Adult or Erotica - Contains graphic sexual content.

Genres
Contemporary Romance - Modern world without magic or monsters which focuses on a romantic relationship
Epic Fantasy - High Fantasy with grand scope, extensive worldbuilding, and in-depth characters
High Fantasy - Fictional world with magic or monsters
Historical Fantasy - Past Earth (>25 years ago) with magic or monsters
Historical Fiction - Past Earth without magic or monsters
Historical Romance - Past Earth without magic or monsters which focuses on a romantic relationship
Magical Realism - Past or present Earth which is predominately realistic but still contains magic or monsters
Paranormal Romance - Past, present, or future world with magic or monsters which focuses on a romantic relationship
Science Fiction - Modern or future world with speculative technology or aliens including dystopias and worlds with alternate histories
Space Opera - Science fiction adventure with grand scope and extensive space travel, often militaristic
Steampunk - Past world with speculative technology
Urban Fantasy - Modern or future world with magic or monsters (a.k.a. Contemporary Fantasy)

Please note that these are guidelines for the purposes of information and convenience only. Many books will cross over genres or defy classification. The classification of any particular book is based mainly on where Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ users have shelved it.

Queen Talk Talk (queentalktalk) | 15 comments Is there a glossary of acronyms? Like HEA or the voice one Bonnie was talking about in the "In the Black" youtube?

Sean Lookielook Sandulak (seansandulak) | 918 comments Mod
, but I haven't updated it in a while. HEA is an initialism of "happily ever after". You can find , specifically section 2. Bonnie is referring to a character voice Felicia uses on . You can find an archive of her games on . The gist of it is that a soft, whispering voice can trigger a physical reaction in some people, like a pleasant tingling running down the spine. Others just find it creepy.

Catrina Bell (catrinabell) | 16 comments Is there a list somewhere of the general rating each of the ladies had for each book each month? I'm wanting to read some from past but would rather read the more highly rated books. Just a thought but maybe there's already a thread about that?

There's no list other than their Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ ratings which you can find on their individual bookshelves. I did a little comparison and analysis and put together a top 20 list of sorts based on those numbers. There's a variety of different genres in there to choose from.

Shadow's Claim
Daughter of the Forest
The Lions of Al-Rassan
Poison Study
Poison Princess
Daughter of the Blood
Magic Bites
Kushiel's Dart
Guilty Pleasures
He, She and It
Fortune's Pawn
Grave Witch
Master of Crows
My Life as a White Trash Zombie
Soulless
The Iron Duke
Dearly, Departed
The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms
Rosemary and Rue
Desperate Duchesses

There was some discussion of this earlier, but it was felt the sound quality from the hangout videos wasn't great. There are programs that will allow you to rip the audio yourself. I've been meaning to do this myself but haven't had time.
