Emma Jaye | 3695 comments This is a genre specific group. In joining this group you have agreed TO READ AND REVIEW ANY ALLOCATED BOOK within the set 12 week limit.

Allocation is entirely random and there will NOT be any rearranging of the listing to accommodate preferences. The ONLY circumstance in which you may duck out of giving a review is if YOU provide a stand-in reviewer.
Let’s be honest here even within the same genre, we don’t all like the same things but we all want reviews. The only way this group can function is if we trust each other to behave honourably. And it IS perfectly possible to give a fair-minded review of a text that does not coincide with our normal choice of reading matter. If you need a few hints/tips, please see this thread:
/topic/show/...

Make sure you have an author profile set up before you join and that your book is available for sale on amazon (not pre-order).

Please let me know as you sign up if you have been reviewed by, or have reviewed another author in the group. It is permissible to review an author more than once if a different book is available, but reciprocal reviews within the group are strictly prohibited.

Your group moderator will be
G.J. Griffiths

Thrillers and mysteries, like sci-fi and fantasy, are my go-to reading subjects. Sign me up for my first round here! My own mutant powers manifest in an uncanny ability to chew through books, so the twelve weeks deadline shouldn't be a problem.

I offer book 1 of my own Lynchman's Owl serials, which includes all 5 issues that make up the standalone origins story available on Amazon now.

Haven't been reviewed or reviewed anybody else before here, so should fit in just fine if you'll have me. Thanks!

Emma Jaye | 3695 comments Welcome B.Y. but are you sure your book is a thriller?
It isn't classified as such on amazon, you've got it in steampunk and fantasy. I haven't read it, so I don't know, I'm also not a particular fan of thrillers.

The fantasy round is now full, but we have a scifi/dystopia round available (if you think your book would fit there) and I'll be starting up a 'general' in the next day or so.

message 4: by B.Y. (new)

B.Y. Yan | 16 comments It's murder/mystery in a steampunk setting, but I can pop over to the scifi round if you think that's best. It's the dystopia setting which threw me - though I suppose one might make the argument that a weakened empire on the verge of a war it cannot hope to win would technically qualify as... pre-dystopia maybe?

Making the switch now.

I'm all done with my reviews in the horror round. No clashes at the moment if I get in but I'll keep my eye on the list as it fills up

Back for more. I would like to submit book 1 of my Jasper, Street-Fighter and Me Series Candie Is Not Always Sweet. The proper edition is not shown, as it is due back from the editor by the end of the week. The edition being offered for review is the "Revised Edition", and also my first book to go through the professional editing process. While the story remains the same as the book shown, the Revised Edition is 7000 plus words longer.

Randall S. Davis (randalls) Emma,
I just signed up for group 108 (18+) but I am wondering whether it would have been better to sign up for 106 - thrillers. My book is a thriller with some explicit sex, misogyny racism, etc.
Not sure where to sign up and could use some help.
Thanks!

Please remember the commitment you are making to your fellow group members. If you pull out after the start date for any reason it is the other members who will be faced with the problem of finding a replacement, or missing out on reviews, through no fault of their own. Please don’t ask the moderators to chase after replacements as we just don’t have the time.

It is the responsibility of the author to get their book to their reviewer in a format the reviewer can manage. Everyone must be able to accept PDF. There are no set dates for the start of each round. You can each work at your own pace, within the limits of the round deadlines.

When you have posted your reviews, please post the three links to your reviews in this thread.

All reviews must be posted to GR, Amazon .com and Amazon.co.uk.

Postings to any other sites are by agreement by both author and reviewer.

If I’ve missed something that results in you being asked to review someone who has already reviewed you, please let me know asap.

To exchange book files, my advice is to use PM to give email addresses to each other (save the chance of spammers getting your addies from this open forum). Happy reviewing, everyone :)

message 43: by Emma (last edited Jun 24, 2016 09:29AM) (new)

Emma Jaye | 3695 comments Hi George, use the links in the sign up list (first message) this is why I ask everyone to add their links.
you only need to contact the four people who are reviewing your book, because you need to get their email addresses. These are:
Ben Westerham for round 1
Jeffrey Carl for round 2
Neil Rochford for round 3
Neil Carstairs for round 4

I've just checked and all four author page links work. Go to the author page. Underneath the icon is a 'follow author' tab, hover over it, to the right of it is a 'send message' option.

The four authors who need to send you their books to review, will contact you in the same way. Remember that our members come from all parts of the globe, so may be on a different time schedule than you are.

Here in the UK, it feels a little surreal today, as in 'what did we just do?'

message 49: by G.J. (new)

G.J. Griffiths (gjgriffiths) | 712 comments Hello Everyone,
I’m G.J. and will be your moderator until 16 September. I will be tracking progress and trying to keep the group on schedule. But I am also here to help with any queries or problems you may have. Here are a few gentle reminders that usually help things go smoothly for all participants.

Please pay special interest to message 1 and 40 of this thread. Note that everyone should send out copies of his/her work to FOUR others and should therefore REVIEW four different authors. Try to follow these “guidance points which are natural if one is keeping to the commitment you have made to your fellow authors:

1. Each author is responsible for the delivery of their respective books to the assigned reviewers. The usual formats are pdf, mobi/kindle, and epub. If anyone needs to convert the format of a book, useful (free) methods are Calibre or Draft2digital so you could download one of those.

2. Reviews should be honest (e.g., you must have read the book) and civil. But your review does not have to be Positive (three stars or more). There should not be any discussion of the reviews on the Group thread.

3. Wherever possible reviewers should avoid "spoilers."

4. You can help me a lot by posting all three links (to GR and Amazons US & UK) at once, and by ensuring that you are giving the links to your actual review, not the book's page. Both Amazons will send you the links to the review when they have posted it. It should not take long.

5. Some of you will already have experience reviewing, and everyone has their own approach. But if you do want some useful advice, there is a nice piece by one of the group's former moderators, Jay, called “What is a review and how to I write one? in the sign up message. I also recommend this:
...

6. There is sometimes a very good reason why people fall behind (family crises, illness, alien abduction, dead laptop) but try and let me know if you need more time. If you have any questions or problems, please let me know, either by posting here or by messaging me.

Most importantly, please enjoy the process of reviewing/being reviewed, particularly if you are new to the "experience".
Best Wishes, All,
G.J.
