R8: SS Team Lucky Charmers (7)

I'm the same way. If I end up with a break in challenges (rarely ever happens because I'm signed up for so many), I end up staring at my Kindle for what feels like forever trying to decide what I want to read. I love trying to find that one book that will cover the most challenges...so much fun!

Is this an OK way to do this?"
Looks good to me. I'm glad you liked Simon Says. I think I'm going to take a long break from fighter books once I'm finished with Raze. I did like Causing Havoc though so I think I'd like the next book in the series.

I'd like to have everyone done by midnight thursday night so we can roll at 12:01 (as soon as it becomes friday). If that's not possible, then sometime on friday. We can't roll until everyone has done a review post.
I finished my book this morning. Will add my review when I get home tonight.

I had to resist signing up for the Olympics in AMMP since I keep forgetting about some of my challenges. I think I am at capacity! My poor little Scrabble book keeps getting bumped

BarbaraAnn wrote: "Unfortunately, I wasn't able to avoid any of the Olympic challenges coming up. I was having trouble with scrabble with the x letter that popped up, but I received a note that ex would work so I'm h..."
Oh wow, X would be a tough one! I'm glad they made that concession!

We are all ready for our roll tonight. Now I just have to hope I can stay awake long enough...
Woot! And now I'm going to be clock-watching until midnight!

How it Fits: #1 in Nursery Crime series
Review: Sergeant Mary Mary has just been assigned to Detective Inspector Jack Spratt in the Nursery Crimes Division when the shattered remains of Humpty Dumpty are discovered. Nursery Crimes is near the bottom of the ladder in this spoof using the gamut of nursery characters. When it is determined that HD was murdered and his shady past comes to light, the plot runs to every egg joke out there. And Jack Spratt becomes synonymous to every use of a Jack in a rhyme. It was a clever ploy but I found it tedious as I progressed. Not as good as I would have liked.
Ooh, that's a fun one, Linda! I need to get back to that series.

That's great Megan!!
I started my book yesterday and will probably finish it tomorrow. I'm really enjoying it...unlike last week's book.

Book:Endings and Beginnings

Qualification: Collars and Cuffs #8
Date Read: 7/25/16
Rating and Review: 5 stars
This was such great ending to the series. I have truly enjoyed each and every one of the book in the Collars and Cuffs series and this one was no different. The authors take turns with each of the couples from previous books and show us where they are now and how they have changed and evolved over the years. I loved getting to see some of my favorite couples (Alex and Leo!!!) again. All of this catch-up was woven wonderfully around the tale of a new couple falling in love and discovering a new way of life in the BDSM community. Darren and JJ were a great couple and worked so well for each other. I loved Darren to pieces. He was such a steady presence for JJ, who quite frankly was all over the damn place. I didn't warm up to JJ quite as easily. I was frustrated by his habit of saying he needed trust and honesty, while at the same time not being willing to give those same things. It was great to see him finally come to this realization and have to fix his mistakes.
I can't wait to see what develops with the new series they have planned!! Next year can't come quick enough. =D
I changed my book to a David Baldacci thriller. I'm already halfway through - very good book!

Memory Man
How it fits: #1 in the Amos Decker series
Date read: 07/24/16
Rating: 4 stars
Review: Amos Decker was injured during a football game in high school, and as a result he can now remember everything he sees. He becomes a police officer, and one night he comes home to find his wife and daughter murdered. Amos falls apart and is off the force and living like a bum for a year and a half until one day a man goes to the police and confesses to killing Amos's family. That same day there is a shooting at the local high school. Amos is pulled out of his stupor, first to look into this man who claims to have killed his family, and then to help investigate the school shooting. He eventually he discovers that the two events are related. This book held my interest from the very beginning. It was a great book and I am now officially a David Baldacci fan!

I'll have to keep an eye out for this one Talia. David Baldacci and I have a weird relationship. I'm not crazy about his writing style, but I love his plots - I start each book talking myself into continuing the book and end up liking it

Book: Second Chance Summer by Jill Shalvis
How it fits: #1 of Cedar Ridge Series
Date read: 07/24/16
Rating: ****
Review - the book centers around two people who grew up in Cedar Ridge, Colorado - Aiden Kincaid who owned a lodge with his siblings and half-siblings and Lily Danville, who grew up in the same town. Lily had left the town 10 years before when her younger sister and her father died.
As romances go, it was well-plotted and written. Both of the main characters were fleshed out and there was just enough angst to keep the story from being overly sweet. I also liked the side characters from Aiden's mother who was having trouble convincing her adult children that a woman over 50 could have a healthy sexual relationship to the siblings who will hopefully all get stories in later books.

What do you mean by his writing style, BarbaraAnn?"
I think it's something that grates on me mainly because I listen to the audiobook versions of his books. His mc tends to be the stoic sort so conversation tends to be short sentences. Kind of similar to the Jack Reacher books, if you've read any of those. That being said, I do recommend David Baldacci. The last book I read of his was Zero Day

6a -6p is a really long day. That really sucks. I work 11p - 7:30a. Only time it sucks is when my kids won't let me sleep. Lol!

Second Grave on the Left by Darynda Jones
How it fits: Book #2 in the Charley Davidson series
Date read: 07/31/16
Rating: 3 stars
Review: Charley Davidson, investigator and Grim Reaper, is on a new case looking for a friend of Cookie's who has gone missing. She is also looking for where Reyes has hidden his physical body. I see now that the format of these books is Charley working on a case parallel to the police and also the Reyes/Son of Lucifer/protect Charley plotline continuing. I seem to always like the mystery/case part of these stories, but I don't really like the Reyes parts. Charley is funny, so I did have some LOL moments. And I was surprised by the denoument of who was behind what happened to Cookie's friend. Knowing me, in spite of my reservations, I'll probably end up reading this whole series.

Book: Double Blind by Heidi Cullinan
Qualification: Special Delivery #2
Pages: 350
Read: 7/30/16

This was another re-read for me, choosing audio format this round. I really enjoyed this book the first time I read it, but lowered the rating a bit because there is so much technical information about poker included. I didn't care about poker then, and I still don't care about poker. I ended up raising my rating because the characters just grabbed me and didn't let go. I couldn't seem to stop listening. Randy and Ethan are such a great couple. They are both so fucked up, but in different areas so they can lean on each other and fill in the gaps. That way they can be strong together.
Sam and Mitch were present, but not enough in Mitch's case. I just love him and hated that he was gone for a large chunk of the book. It ended up being a good thing though because it allowed Sam to grow up and stand on his own.
My only complaint this time around is still the lack of foursome sex. Plenty of Randy and Ethan sex, but not enough with all 4. They are a seriously hot group!!!
Oh and just a side note...I love Iggy Toma. Such a great narrator! =D

Book: Daniel's Christmas
Date Read: 7/30
Rating: ****
How it Fits: #3 in the Night Stalker series
Review: The Night Stalker series is a military romance series, based on a squad of military helicopter pilots. Daniel's Christmas is the first book where the MC is not a pilot (of course it's only the third book in the series so future books may also focus on related personnel.
Daniel is the White House Chief of Staff (it helps to know that the president of the United States is a supporting character in the series and he is a childhood friend of one of the pilots, so there is a connection within the series). The book starts when he is introduced to CIA Analyst Alice Thompson. She has an interesting and original take on a potential meeting with a foreign country.
Overall, I enjoyed the story - Daniel and Alice worked together very well, both professionally and romantically. In addition, there was a sweet Christmas sideline that was nice without being cloying. I do feel that Alice's personal issues were resolved very quickly without any discussion with Daniel, but it was a fun story.

I just finished the first book in the series last month. I'm not usually a cozy mystery fan, but I thought it was a lot of fun and I've got the 2nd book in my TBR just waiting for the time/opportunity to read it.
I finished my book last night and updated post 132.
