Sarah | 342 comments This is the one I plan on reading, but I haven't gotten my hands on a copy yet.
Hopefully my library has it.

Melanie FYI: This book is currently on sale at Audible.

Leesa I just bought it two days ago after a week of searching with no luck. Anything fairly modern my library doesn't seem to stock!

Sarah | 342 comments Didn't manage to get to this one yet :(
But I have a hold on it, so when it comes in I'll try to squeeze it in to my reading schedule

Leesa I'm loving it so far Sarah- it's worth a read!

Good to know!

There's still two people in front of me on the hold list. Grr.
But there are multiple copies, so hopefully it won't be too much longer.

Melanie I finally got around to starting this book. It is instantly delightful. I can totally visualize the grumpy old Ove...

Luella | 97 comments I'm about half way though and have got to thinking, I think I might be a 59 year old grumpy old Swedish man.

Kandice Funny enough, this is the title for my RL book club in June!

Cheryl (cherylllr) I think a *lot* of book clubs have been reading it. In both the library systems I use, it was always checked out, never on the shelves.

LOL! I felt the same way, although I am a lot closer (demographically) than I would guess you are. I saw a lot of myself in Ove.

Kandice Luella wrote: "I'm about half way though and have got to thinking, I think I might be a 59 year old grumpy old Swedish man."
I haven't begun, but this has certainly happened when reading a book before. You almost feel like "where are the cameras?" ;-)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) I had a neighbor a lot like Ove years ago. I couldn't stand him at first, and I couldn't understand how he managed to get such a wonderful wife. When we first moved in my husband was a bit like Ove's new neighbors, asking for a ladder, etc. They eventually became good friends. When we watched the movie (which was very good btw), he saw the connection right away.

Joanna Loves Reading (joannalovesreading) This is the September 2018 Bookshelf Catch-Up Selection.

Becky (becnelli) I'm looking forward to starting this book. My hubby was kind enough to get my copy from the library before it closed yesterday.

Megan | 474 comments Ove is an adorable grumpy old man!

Susan | 442 comments The first hour seemed slow to me on the audiobook, even though I thought it was funny (I read Beartown on the Kindle). But I'm into it now and am loving it, just as I expected!

Joanna Loves Reading (joannalovesreading) I plan to listen to it also Susan. Glad to hear it works that way.

Tawnee (won_tawn78) I'm excited to join the group with reading this one. I purchased the audiobook earlier this year after finishing (and loving) Beartown.

Cassie (cwalters-shantal) | 28 comments Not sure yet if I'm going to be reading or listening to this one. Depends on how quickly I can get through Jane Eyre. Looking forward to it regardless.

Mishica | 19 comments Have heard a lot about this one and very excited ro read it.
Yesterday went through 1st chapter which was quite hilarious so i believe it's going to be a good read.

bErgUP I'm almost halfway through and I don't understand why an asshole like Ove is so endearing or lovable. Maybe there is a hallmark lesson at the end that puts everything in perspective.

LOL! Ove is a real curmudgeon. I thought the author did a decent job of giving him a few poignant moments that transcended the rest of the book, such as (view spoiler). But yeah, mostly it's a big Hallmark story.

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) | 671 comments Ove is a great character! This book was more interesting than I had originally thought.

Joanna Loves Reading (joannalovesreading) I plan to start listening next week!

Toni | 2 comments I thought I was the only person left who’s never read the book. I have such a hard time with starting overly hyped books. Will try to read it for this group. Hoping it is half as good as everyone thinks it is. Happy reading!

Maryam M.Gh (maryammgh) I just finished this book yesterday! Yaay!

Stephani Beltran (theweekendbooker) | 1 comments Been wanting to read this one for awhile now. Now is a better time than ever to do so I guess. 🤞🏼hoping it lives through all the hype.

Rachel McMahon | 3 comments This is my first book in this group. Have wanted to read it and am off to see if I can buy a copy at my awesome local second hand book seller

Lisa (spirolim) | 77 comments I'm so looking forward to reading this one! I can't start until next week (need to finish some books first), but I'm hoping my library will have a copy!

I have trouble with the overhyped as well! Some books
I don’t think I will ever get to for this reason.

Joanna Loves Reading (joannalovesreading) I have downloaded the audio and start tomorrow.

Ha! I'm not even half way through and I feel the same way! I am listening to the the audio book. He sort of reminds me of my father (eye roll) as far as resisting change, the current state of the world, technology, the millennial generation.

Mika Leesa wrote: "I just bought it two days ago after a week of searching with no luck. Anything fairly modern my library doesn't seem to stock!"

talk to your librarian. many libraries use "swan" or similar system where they borrow books from other local libraries. it's a great system!! :)

message 37: by Cassie (new)

Cassie (cwalters-shantal) | 28 comments This one will unfortunately have to wait until next month for me as I am falling behind in all my reading.

message 38: by Mishica (new)

Mishica | 19 comments Almost half way through the book.

Ove is a character either you love him or hate him, there is no in-between. I must admit that i am liking his character.

I can describe him as "A grumpy and arrogant old man with a perfect comic timing".

so perfectly put! and his love for his wife is beyond fairytales.

Susan | 442 comments I agree, Ove's love for Sonia makes him so special imo. And I think the more you learn his backstory, the more interesting he seems as a character.

Stephanie Peer After a long wait, I've finally been able to get to this book from the library. Read the first few pages and I already like the way the author writes and I can tell this is going to be a funny book. :)
