Mimi (heymimi) | 91 comments Similar to the Romance tags problem (see this thread: /topic/show/...)
Feel free to suggest search terms for this genre, I'll add them to the list

What needs doing (borrowed form Krazykiwi's post in the romance thread)
1) Remove the topic tags from the books.
2) Lots of them have bogus series info, strip that out too, but quite a few of these prolific romance authors do in fact write in series, so be careful.
3) Check the titles left over actually match the covers, they quite often don't.
4) Lots of these have publishers as authors (primary or secondary), you can usually figure out from a look inside who the real author is, or if they're secondary just remove them.
5) Mountains of combining once you're done with all that. A lot of these have the same books published under several different titles, so that's always fun. I've taken to putting a librarian note with the names of the protags as I'm cleaning the titles, and then matching those up later and removing all but one of the notes.

Search terms:

bakery (and bakery related items: cupcake, pie, cafe, coffee...)
cozy murder (yes, apparently that's a thing...)
culinary suspense
scandinavian cozy
women sleuths

Mimi (heymimi) | 91 comments You're braver than I am, lol

She (or who-ever is behind those books), is quite a 're-packager', huh.

I just took a look at one to see what the thread was about........................

Dee (austhokie) | 892 comments so far i think 12 versions of the same book is the record...and they are marked as series but i think they are more serials - since even the descriptions are partially written...

Jay-me (Janet) | 58 comments So basically in the one that I looked at you would have

COZY MYSTERY: In Cold Blood Series (Cupcake Murder Cozy Mystery Detective Women Sleuths)

and replace with (possibly) In Cold Blood (books 1-3)

yes, that's exactly how these are supposed to be cleaned up.

Also, all editions 'In Cold Blood book 1' should be combined etc.

It's a lot of work, but if you see the cleaned up booklist by an author afterwards, it's rather rewarding....

Dee (austhokie) | 892 comments yep yep...i'm just focusing on removing key words/combining right now - i'll fix series data after...because trying ot figure out what they series should be titled to make them a series is a whole 'nother kettle of fish...

none of these (as far as I can tell) are actually series, but are rather serials (1 story divided into multiple parts)

If you could indeed remove key words & combine, that would be a great help. I'll figure the series out later on;
(I'm ashamed to say a lot of those books are on my 'to read' list... they usually take 20-40 minutes te read, exactly the time I need to wait untill all the machines in the store are up and running in the morning...)

Dee (austhokie) | 892 comments i have reached a new level of disgust for these authors...still working FWIW)

Mimi (heymimi) | 91 comments I feel your pain, lol.

I've edited over 800 entries in the romance category today, and I wonder whether there's a way we can find out just how many of these tag-riddled books get added on a daily basis...

That's why I don't bother with these. As we say in Dutch: "it's like mopping the floor while the water's still running".

Of vechten tegen de bierkaai ;)

I know it seems like a losing fight, but those text wall titles really annoy me.

I love that saying!

The descriptions of the Cozys frequently need cleaning up as well! :/

Krazykiwi | 1767 comments As I've said on the romance thread, it's less about fixing them for me, as it is a reliable "keep fingers busy and not require too much brain power" task. It's awfully satisfying to get an author's whole book list sorted out though. Then I list them in my private group and go back through each now and then and it's a much smaller job.

I've noticed, doing that, that a lot of these "authors" are only active for a while. They put out a few dozen books under one name, then they move on to a new fake name.

Thanks, I'll add it to the tag list in the first post.

edit: wrong thread, more of a romance tag. But definately needs cleaning up too;

Dee (austhokie) | 892 comments looks like Lorrie Bannett is mostly taken care of...all the different book entries are combined and most of the extraneous key words have been removed - but there are some lingering, if anyone wants a quick(ish) clean-up task
