All Pen wants is to be the kind of girl she’s always been. So why does everyone have a problem with it? They think the way she looks and acts means she’s trying to be a boy—that she should quit trying to be something she’s not. If she dresses like a girl, and does what her folks want, it will show respect. If she takes orders and does what her friend Colby wants, it will show her loyalty. But respect and loyalty, Pen discovers, are empty words. Old-world parents, disintegrating friendships, and strong feelings for other girls drive Pen to see the truth--that in order to be who she truly wants to be, she’ll have to man up.

Wow... it's awesome that you have so many great books to recommend. Since we cut the nominations off at 8, can you pick one from this group to nominate for this month? If you like you can nominate the others one at at time in subsequent months. That'll give others in the group a chance to suggest some of their favorites. This particular thread is for LGBT+, which is books with main characters other than M/M characters. Thank you!! They all look great!

I honestly don't know, Santosh. I'll have to check with a senior mod. But will find out.

Book 1:

Book 2:

I'll put Santosh's book into the poll.
Lyra, is it okay to just read your first book as a stand alone? We don't usually read series because with only a month a single book is enough to get through.

It comes out on November 3rd and it's a YA f/f Robin Hood retelling. I'm really really excited for this one. I've been waiting for it since I heard the premise.

Please pick just one book to nominate for each category (Gay MC and LBTQ+ MC)

Please let us know your top choice here, Meme, with characters other than gay boys. If any of these books have a gay cis-gender Main Character, you can also nominate that one on the other Book of the month thread.

That sounds cool <3

When the Moon Was Ours by Anne-Marie McLemore

When the Moon Was Ours follows two characters through a story that has multicultural elements and magical realism, but also has central LGBT themes—a transgender boy, the best friend he’s falling in love with, and both of them deciding how they want to define themselves.
To everyone who knows them, best friends Miel and Sam are as strange as they are inseparable. Roses grow out of Miel’s wrist, and rumors say that she spilled out of a water tower when she was five. Sam is known for the moons he paints and hangs in the trees, and for how little anyone knows about his life before he and his mother moved to town.
But as odd as everyone considers Miel and Sam, even they stay away from the Bonner girls, four beautiful sisters rumored to be witches. Now they want the roses that grow from Miel’s skin, convinced that their scent can make anyone fall in love. And they’re willing to use every secret Miel has fought to protect to make sure she gives them up.

The first of these is on several "bisexuality" shelves, so I'm going to use that one, since Meme didn't come back to make a clearer choice.
Anything we haven't already read is welcome - it need not be a new release. Check our book-of-the-month bookshelf /group/books... if you are wondering whether a book has already been read by the group.
Please post a link to the book, copy the blurb if possible, and give us a few words about why you think this would be a good choice. If it has edgy or potentially 16+ content please also note that - we'd be happy to have it on the list, but want members to be aware. Remember that books do have to be appropriate for an under-18 readership.
Books that lost a previous vote can to be nominated again.
New rules ask that authors do not nominate their own stories, please.
We will close nominations when there are 8 books nominated or Midnight Sept 29th.
Nominations are now closed - poll is now up here- /poll/show/1...
