Really? I just finished that book! It was great. Don't believe the blurb -- it is so much better than the blurb make you think!

Amanda Brown | 0 comments I'm going to reread Big Little Lies for this one.

message 53: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (yarninaround) Does Hidden Figures count? I thought it didn't because it was released this month, December 2016. So I finagled into a different spot on my list.

message 54: by poshpenny (new)

poshpenny | 1916 comments I count it. It's released in a few cities in December to be eligible for Awards but doesn't go into wide release everywhere else until January.

Megan (mghrt06) | 546 comments I saw the trailer for A Monster Calls and it looks really good! Maybe I'll read that for this prompt!

Oooh, this is a good one. I'm reading it for my subtitle challenge, though. Because WHAT a subtitle, am I right?! ;-)

yeah, no kidding!

message 58: by Tytti (new)

Tytti | 355 comments Can it be a biography? Because I found a biography of sorts about Tom of Finland and a biopic about him is coming out (heh) on February? I think the script has been written independently but still, the stories are same.

Juanita (juanitav) | 744 comments Tytti wrote: "Can it be a biography?"

Yes. Any genre is acceptable for a nomination.

message 60: by S. (new)

S. (brightstar08051005) Does Hidden Figures count for 2017 since it was released on Christmas Day 2016 for the Awards season? It's one of the rare books I'll see the movie before reading the book.

message 61: by Tytti (new)

Tytti | 355 comments But my point was that the movie probably isn't based on that book specifically, though it might as well might be... Even the trailer has some similar "scenes". Well, we'll see.

I would say no unless the screenplay is based on that particular book.

Thanks, that's a nice list. Last year I had a hard time finding even one book I wanted to read (and I ended up not really liking it). This year I'm having a hard time narrowing it down to one! There are five on my TBR list. Maybe I'll just close my eyes to pick one ;-)

Hey! we seem to have read the same books and have the same taste and I am on the fence of reading All the Bright Places. I read what it is about and although it interests me I wonder if I will find it too dark. It is about someone who loves death.

All the Bright Places covers a dark topic, but it isn't a terribly dark book unless suicide is a specific trigger for you. Overall, I think the topic was well-handled.

I'm thinking My Cousin Rachel as I'd like to read another DuMaurier

Megan (mghrt06) | 546 comments 11 people are ahead of me for A Dog's Purpose at my library. Put my request in now....and wait. I don't know if I'll use if for this or from non-human perspective. Either way I want to read it this year!

Not this year. He's had it in development for years. Still no green light.

Alex (ReadingBetweenTheNotes) (readingbetweenthenotes) Sorry if this has been asked before but would A Monster Calls count even though the movie is out now? Do we have to read the book before the movie is released for it to count here? (Hope that makes sense, I dont feel like I've worded my question very well!)

All the ads said "release January 6" but there were a few places it came out earlier. Since most of us couldn't see it in 2016, I think it should count for 2017.

I was coming here to say the same exact thing! It seems books mentioned here pop up almost immediately on book bub or pixel of ink!

Linda McLaughlin (lindamclaughlin) I read A Dog's Purpose last year and LOVED it! Can't wait to see the movie.

message 89: by Robin (new)

Robin (tijgerlil) | 20 comments For the entire challenge I am trying to use books I own that I haven't read yet. As my shelves number well over 100 owned unread books this has not proved to be an issue until now.

I read somewhere that Bel Canto is being made into a movie but no date. I like the idea of American Gods even though it is a TV series rather than a movie as that is a book I have been meaning to read for ages!

How do we feel about the TV series vs movie in this case?

Personnally I'd count any screen adaptation coming out in 2017 (and even with this relaxed rule I can't find a book too read...).

Robin Bo wrote: "... How do we feel about the TV series vs movie in this case?..."

I wouldn't count it, because in the past there have been categories specific to TV, so a movie is a movie and a TV show is a TV show and a miniseries is a TV show. In my opinion! It's a grey area.

American Gods was a pretty great book, so I encourage everyone to read it! Just maybe not for this category...

message 93: by Robin (new)

Robin (tijgerlil) | 20 comments Thank you Pioup & Nadine for your responses. I may just leave that one as one of my last reads and see how I'm going by that point....

I looked it up on IMDB and it should be released in 2017 with Daniel Radcliffe as Yossi Ghinsberg.

Sarah (is clearing her shelves) (sarahjf1984) I will be reading Before I Fall Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver for this prompt. I own a paperback edition of this book that I bought from my library's ex-library book sale for no more than $0.50 many years ago. It has been sitting on my shelf, waiting to be read for too long now.

AM (ammo) | 11 comments I will be reading A Dog's Purpose for this one.

I am stocking up on the tissues for this book. I can handle dark novels about death, loss, and violence - but when it comes to animal's, I can't cope. I have seen the trailer to this movie, I'm crying already!

I can't cope either. Which is why I'm not even considering reading this book or seeing this movie!
