A classic period piece mystery. Very enjoyable read.

Tr1sha | 283 comments This should have been an exciting book, but for me it was spoiled by the very long technical details about sailing. I guess sailors enjoy this, but for me the detail slowed the story too much. I got to the end & felt that the author must have been bored too, as it ended very suddenly almost as though he couldn’t be bothered to continue writing. The best thing about this, in my opinion, was the interaction between the 2 main characters, & the way their friendship developed.

You may find the background on the novel explains the author’s reasoning in including so much sailing/coastal detail.




Also, the life of Erskine Childers is rather fascinating...
