message 2: by Peter (new)

Peter | -28 comments I will be reading Inferno for this week. Obviously I'm reading out of order as this is day 1 and this book is for week 26. I may have cheated and started this one a little early, but I wasn't going to get through any more of my 2016 books, and this one was calling my name. Once I picked it up, I flew through it to about half way. I've had to work a lot over the past two days so haven't had much time for reading, but I'm really enjoying it so far.

Vicky D (readingwithmrsd) | 28 comments The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
I'm reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, on both audible and kindle.

message 4: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 65 comments I read Ready Player One for this week. Definitely an adventure as Wade races through an entire online universe to be the first to find the prize.

As far as adventures in my own life...I went to Iceland last year, rented a car, and drove around the country--waterfalls, glacier hiking, horseback riding, geothermal pools, ferries, black sand beaches, loooong stretches of gravel roads in a 2WD car, etc. By myself. I think that counts.

message 5: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Amanda, Iceland is definitely an adventure! What a wonderful country, I was completely in love!

message 6: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 65 comments Yeah, Iceland was wonderful. I wish I could go again but there are so many other places to explore! (And, you know, money is necessary.)

- Do you remember any major adventures in your own life? Nothing like this! We have had some amazing adventures while traveling on sabbatical, though. My favorite was a few days spent at the Refugio Amazonas in the jungle in Peru. Amazing.

I also chose The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn - I haven't read it for years and it was wonderful to re-read it.

I live in a different country from the one I grew up, that was a big adventure :). I like traveling, and enjoy seeing new sites and meet people of different backgrounds, I also agree with others that life is a big adventure, every day there's something new to discover and learn from.

Shannon | 90 comments I am reading. THE RIVER AT NIGHT, by Erica Ferencik. Half way in and holding my breath..
Four long time female friends meet once a year for a weeks vacation. White water rafting in the Maine wilderness is this years pick.. I have a feeling this will not turn out well at all !

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3238 comments What are you reading this week?
Pandemonium. I'm a bit skeptical about this being an adventure story, even now after reading about half of it, but it's tagged as one on GoodReads so I guess it counts.

Do you remember any major adventures in your own life?
Not really. I'm not much of a traveler, and I'm a bit of a coward when it comes to trying new things.

I can't say I've had any great adventures but a trip in 1990 to explore Montreal, Quebec City, and nearby towns and sites such as Montmorency Falls was enjoyable! It was my only time visiting Canada. I'd like to take the Canadian transcontinental train ride one day.

Do you remember any major adventures in your own life?
I have had many adventures in life, from going away to college alone to tubing alone with my husband and stepson on the Chattahoochee River in Georgia and being caught in torrential rain and thunder and lightning so bad that we thought we would not be returning home! So many adventures, that is what life is all about, isn't it?

A bit of travelling and exploration, but the epic ones are related to people and pets, not places.

message 37: by Bec (new)

Bec | 1334 comments I'm reading Ready Player One.

I've had lots of adventures. Probably my first overseas trip to a non-English speaking country without my parents was one to remember. My hubby and I went to NZ for our honeymoon - that was fine. But our first trip to Malaysia, I just remember at the airport hubby asking where we needed to go and me answering, no idea, I've not been here before either. Then going to the toilet and it was a squat one so I just walked straight out and said I would wait until we got to the hotel (I later learned if you walked further down in the toilets they had western ones there!!)

LOL I put in the wrong book of the series and had to edit my post.

Do you remember any major adventures in your own life? Can't say I'm a particularly adventurous person. I guess the most adventurous thing I've ever done was camp on the shores of Elephant Butte Reservoir in New Mexico (yes, that's really the name of the place) far away from any electricity or plumbed water. That's about as adventurous as I care to get.

Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransome

Do you remember any major adventures in your own life?

My childhood was full of lots of small adventures, like the ones in this book (but without the boats). I travel a lot now, usually on my own, which is quite adventurous, but I think the only thing that would qualify as "major" is when, just over three years ago, I left England to come and live on an extinct volcano in the middle of the Atlantic. I didn't know anyone, there are bugs and lizards and feral chickens, and there's nowhere to get a decent chip butty.
