Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments I'm reading Red Rising, which is sci-fi/dystopia.

I'm not particularly drawn towards YA, but when I book sounds great, that won't deter me. I've found however that I tend to be annoyed by the YA style if I read several in a row.

Red Rising by Pierce Brown

- What genre is the book from?

Sci-fi

- Do you typically read young adult books?

No, quite the opposite actually. I actively avoid them. Not that I think there is anything wrong with the genre, its just that I have no delusions about being a Young Adult and can't really relate to them. I'm not sure that I ever was one, and if I were, I wasn't reading YA at the time.

Fantasy.

Do you typically read young adult books?
Sometimes. They can be a nice palate cleanser, but I often find that I don't enjoy them, mostly due to unrealistic characters or terrible love triangles. However, I am not the target market, and I probably would have eaten them up when I actually was a teenager.

The Fault in Our Stars

YA Contemporary / Romance

I don't typically read YA; in fact, that's usually a red flag for me. I'm not into romance, which tends to be a main feature of most if not all YA books. There's also only so much angst that I can put up with. I didn't like the teen fiction section when I was a teen and I haven't gotten any more interested in it. All that said, I enjoyed The Fault in Our Stars.

Romance

Do you typically read young adult books?
It's not in my top handful of genres, but I do read YA fiction regularly. I just looked over the books I've read this year & YA is about 20% of what I've read, but that could have something to do with the fact that I read the whole Princess Diaries series this year.

MissLemon | 592 comments What are you reading this week?
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
What genre is the book from
Classic
Do you typically read YA?
It's not my favourite genre, but I was surprised to find how many books I'd already read from the Top 100 list. This has been my most difficult prompt to fill, and I just didn't feel like reading the book I'd selected, but then I revisited the list and realised that Little Women was on the it and I'd already read it this year (for the first time) for another challenge.
A lot of YA books seem to be Romance and/or Fantasy. I don't really read Romance and I feel like I've read most of the fantasy books I'm interested in, so I'm glad I've got this one out of the way
