Bree Verity (breeverity) I'm planning a virtual launch on FB for my newest novel, wondering if anyone else had tried this, how you went with getting people to attend, and what kind of results you obtained?

Heidi Angell (heidiangell) | 241 comments I do a Facebook Takeover for the launch of my books as part of my virtual book tour. I am planning one for February, actually.

I really enjoy them. I think that doing more than one day gets to be a bit much, not only in terms of finding participants, but also in keeping reader's interested.

I would suggest that you stick to authors in your genre, and finding them is pretty easy. Invite them from here, and check out other author groups.

I personally prefer to do mine one hour of authors, one hour of me and switch. I share other stops on the tour, little bits of stuff that is exclusive to the event, and I do my own giveaway just for this event. But that is me.

I did one last year for the launch of Hell School: Fresh Meat and it was great, with a lot of engagement from my fans not only on my stuff, but also with the authors who came to do the takeovers. Definitely looking forward to planning this next one.

Tamara Brown (asktamarabrown) | 26 comments No, but I'd be interested to hear from others.

Donna Compositor | 17 comments I've been interested in doing this. I've only participated as a reader and I thought it was interesting. I can see how doing it for more than a day can get overwhelming. It was a lot from the reader side and I think it only rate for 6 hours or so.

But I always figured the authors who participate in each others' FB launches actually know each other. While I'm sure that is the case in some instances, not always? I never figured asking random authors to participate 1) because I'm pretty shy at that and 2) I genuinely only thought authors who read and supported each others' work would participate.

Ahhhh... don't be shy! I'm an introvert myself and don't like yelling "Hey, look at me, look at me, look at me!" But, you're not really doing it for you. You're doing it for your work.

Susan Catalano (susancatalano) | 27 comments I did a FB Release party for my last book and it was a blast. I can't wait to do another. I did it for 2 hours, had some trivia questions and gave away 2 Amazon gift cards. Also, had an incentive for signing up for my newsletter. I sent out invites, shared on FB, tweeted, etc. It was busy the whole time. I included the link below if you want to check out the posts and discussions. Good luck!

Erica Graham (erica_graham) | 46 comments I have actually never hear of a FB launch party. Susan, thanks for sharing the link for yours. This is a very interesting concept. Is this basically a time you set aside that you are online to have conversations, talk about your new book, do giveaways, etc.? I would think it would be difficult to keep people engaged. Do any of you have this problem? What other neat conversation and activity ideas do people have?

message 8: by Bree (new)

Bree Verity (breeverity) Hi Susan - who did you invite to your party? My author profile has about 140 people on it, obviously I'll be inviting them, but did you go outside of your existing fans?

message 9: by Lisette (new)

Lisette Kristensen I am a big fan of Take Overs on FB. One of the best marketing concepts out there. Great way to build your brand, platform and meet and chat with new readers. By the way, Heidi that posted above knows her stuff on blog tours and launches.

Hi Erica - I set it up as an event for 2 hours. I wasn't sure if anyone was going to show up, but it turned out to be busy the entire time. Questions/responses were flying faster than I could refresh the screen. I can understand why authors hire a vendor for larger events. There was never a lull and we really did have fun!

Hi Bree - I invited my FB friends, shared on my timeline and asked my friends to share (they did), and posted on Twitter and Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ. Most everyone who attended was someone I knew or who had read the first book in the series.

Julie Gerber | 33 comments I love facebook parties! I do them often for my clients. I have had some that last all day (posting on the hour) and some that last 1-2 hours. I include trivia, giveaways, ask for feedback on books. I have done parties for cover reveals, new releases, and giveaways to promote sales. They have been very well received and it brings in a lot of interaction from fans as well as new followers. I also do Twitter Parties because they are just as much fun and seem to boost sales.

Julie Gerber | 33 comments If you want to set up a facebook party and announce it a few weeks before the date, you can set up a facebook event and invite people to rsvp. You can post on the event page to stir interest and post teasers.
