Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments If you participated in the process of making the 2017 list, there probably is one or several categories you really wanted, either because you suggested it or just really liked it. This prompt is here to help a bit with the frustration ;)

For those of you reading in order: Nov 20 - Nov 26

The whole list of the rejected prompt can be found here
To discuss the book, don't forget to add it in the A-Z folders or join the existing discussion. Please, don't discuss the book here.

Progress Post:
- Which rejected suggestion did you choose and which book are you reading for this category?
- Did you first pick the prompt and then a book that fit in, or was there a book you really wanted to add to your challenge and you looked for a prompt that fit?
- Tell us which other prompt(s) you would have liked to see in the challenge.

- Which rejected suggestion did you choose and which book are you reading for this category? The suggestion was a book based on a fairy tale and I picked:
The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey
by Eowyn Ivey
- Did you first pick the prompt and then a book to fit in, or was there a book you really wanted to add to your challenge and you looked for a prompt to fit? This is the book I was reading for book club and was 1/2 way done at year end. I really wanted to add it to the challenge, since I was enjoying it so much, so I fit the category to it.
- Tell us which other prompt(s) you would have like to see in the challenge. I think I could work with most of them, but I am glad the palindrome one wasn't included. I think that would have been too hard to find.

A Curious Beginning (Veronica Speedwell, #1) by Deanna Raybourn

Did you first pick the prompt and then a book to fit in, or was there a book you really wanted to add to your challenge and you looked for a prompt to fit? I was finishing up a book I started late in 2016 and wanted to fit it in my 2017 plan since I'll finish it this year.

Tell us which other prompt(s) you would have like to see in the challenge. A book with a map on the cover or inside, book about social justice and more. I'm doing a mini-reject challenge with those prompts I voted for.

Tell us which other prompt(s) you would have like to see in the challenge.
I can't think of any right now, but if I come up with one, I'll come back here and edit this post. I did especially like seeing the prompt here (#23) for the BBC - Big Read, which I'd like to see every year, since I plan to continue working my way through that list.

A book with an appealing name Tell the Truth, Shame the Devil by Melina Marchetta
- Did you first pick the prompt and then a book that fit in, or was there a book you really wanted to add to your challenge and you looked for a prompt that fit?
I like wordplay, puns and quotes from other sources and chose this category because sometimes the title of a book seems like an afterthought - this one was perfect and I liked the nod to Shakespeare. Personally I am no good at lying so it was kind of a personal mantra too.

- Tell us which other prompt(s) you would have liked to see in the challenge.
I like the idea of reading a book based on a true crime. I also like the idea of revisiting a book you read 10 plus years ago and either hated or loved to see if you still feel the same way about it. Some YA favourites of mine no longer hold up to scrutiny - some books I hated or misunderstood in my youth now really resonate with me.

This book was in a buddy read with another group that I wanted to participate in so I picked the book first and then made it fit into a prompt.
- Tell us which other prompt(s) you would have liked to see in the challenge. I think it would be interesting to do 4 prompts where you pick books written in different time periods. For instance if we picked the 20th century we could divide the books up 1900-25, 1926-1950, 1951-1975, 1976-2000. Or expand it further to 2 centuries 1800-1850, 1851-1900, 1901-1950, 1951-2000.

J Austill | 1066 comments Which rejected suggestion did you choose and which book are you reading for this category?

Topic: A book written or set in the United Kingdom, including all of Ireland.

Book: Joy in the Morning by P.G. Wodehouse

Did you first pick the prompt and then a book that fit in, or was there a book you really wanted to add to your challenge and you looked for a prompt that fit?

I wanted to read this book. There are a few Wodehouse books which keep getting recommended to me as the favorite of some comic or author and I have a desire for more Wodehouse.

Tell us which other prompt(s) you would have liked to see in the challenge.

I'm sure that, if we play this game long enough, we'll get a chance to try all of the topics.

I chose "a book about social justice" and I read The Hate U Give

A little of both, actually. I was always very interested in this prompt and was disappointed it didn't make the list, but there were many others I was considering as well. I also decided I really wanted to fit this book in somewhere, and this prompt seemed like a natural fit.
