Group Reading Map (2017)
For those unfamiliar with the map process, please comment in this section with the book title, author, primary location, and secondary location (if applicable). Only mods will have access to edit the map.

Location: Spring Eaton, England (Says suburbeb of london, England) and Bangkok, Thailand

Main Location: New York, New York
Secondary Location: Amgash, Illinois (I can't find this on a map, so I am guessing it's fictional?)

Primary Location: Denver, Colorado
Secondary Locations: Washington, D.C.; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Chicago, Illinois; Mannheim, Germany; Fort Campbell Army Base, Kentucky; Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Washington; Montreal, Quebec.
Amy, yes we will be including fantasy and space locations again this year. You can find all the details in the first post ;)

Sorry Laura, I 'read it' (TWICE even!) but my eyes must have jumped right over that! I think I need a nap! lol

Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout
This is set in what I believe to be a fictional town of Crosby, Maine, which is supposed to be near Portland, ME on the coast.

by Lauren Graham
Primary Location: New York City
Secondary Location: Los Angeles, CA

Location: Minnesota
The Butterfly Garden, by Dot Hutchison
Location: Maryland

Multiple locations: Fort Myers, FL; Baja, Mexico; Kansas City, Missouri; Ann Arbor, MI; Detroit, MI; Indianapolis, IN; Chicago, IL
Lee-Ann, I mapped the first one as primary (Fort Myers) so tell me if there's a more appropriate one for primary. Do you mean Baja California, Mexico? The description of the book says La Junta, Mexico so I'm not sure which to map.

Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu
Styria, Austria

Location: Rokhandi (Planet)
Secondary Location: London

Sorry for the confusion!! I would say primary should probably Mexicali located in Baja California, Mexico. The book described La Juntita, Mexico as a made up place, if that helps at all. All the other locations can be secondary. Thanks for all of your hard work! :)

Primary Location: Chicago, Illinois
Secondary Location: Cainsville, Illinois (fictional town)

Locations: Earth, Heaven, and the vast nothingness
Lee-Ann, no worries :) Updated.
Sarah, my research said it's a small town so I placed it at Oak Brook, IL. Seemed appropriate to me :)
Jewel, I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to map that. I put Heaven as a fantasy location since I wouldn't really say it's a space location. Let me know if you have any particular suggestions ;)

Primary Location: Bartlett, Indiana (Again, I can't find this on a map, so I believe it's fictional, but would be somewhere around the Williamsburg, IN area based on landmarks in the book.)

Primary: Ghana
There are secondary settings, but I haven't been able to find a list, so maybe it's easier to just skip those.

Primary: Lakeside, Thaisia (fictional)
The Fate of Ten by Pittacus Lore
Primary: Manhattan, New York
Secondary: Mexico

Primary: Style Estate, Essex, England (near Tadminster, though Google tells me that is not a real city.)

Through the wonder that is Google, we can map all the locations we've been to through the magic of reading. If you want to participate, and we hope you do, just link your book in the comments below. But before we get ahead of ourselves... here are a few guidelines to keep in mind.
Only submit the books you've finished reading.
Sure, a lot of us have our reading plans solidified for the whole year but plans have a way of changing even when we don't expect them to. It is for this reason we ask that you only submit books that you're done reading. This way, if that book you thought you'd love ends up in your did-not-finish pile or you take an unexpected hiatus from the group, we won't have to go back and try and figure out what was or wasn't read and we can end the year with a pretty accurate record.
Around the Year Challenge books only, please.
We're going to limit this to books for the main challenge to keep things simpler. But you can include a book that is set in fantasy or space settings, just like in 2016.
Fiction, non-fiction, doesn't matter.
As long as the book is set in or references events that occurred in a location we can include it.
Try and be as specific as you can with your location information.
The more precise the location information is, the better the map will look in the end. Obviously this is not possible with all books - sometimes the author doesn't go into specifics - but if/when you can be specific, please do.
Multiple locations are okay.
We know that there are many books set in multiple locations. If that is the case, pick one as the main setting and list any others as secondary settings. We'll map whatever you give us, but secondary settings will have their own layer on the map that can be turned on or off as needed. If you feel like there is no distinct main setting for the book (like road trip books, time travel books, part fantasy world/part real world, etc.) then pick the one that most interested you, or the one you would most like to visit, or flip a coin. However you want to do it is fine by us. Also, please, pretty please, take a moment and check if the location you're entering exists. It will save the mod from extra research and confusion.
One map marker per book.
Just like with the A-Z folders we're only going to include one marker per book. If you see that someone else has already mapped a book you read, submit it anyway. We can add your name to the submission info on the map as well.
