Blindsight
It's a strange book

Blindsight

I absolutely adore Blindsight. Its the type of thing that's right up my alley.
I seem to be unable to decide what I want to read next, jumped back and forth a number of times, and just ended up listening to THHGTTG radio series for the 15th billion time. :)

The group read Blindsight some years back - you should poke around our old Previous Books of the Month threads to find it. Super weird book.

Interested in your thoughts about The Mongolian. I have it but have not read it.

I dont read anything about a book till I am done, Will take a trip down past books when I am done though

Now I think I'll try The Sunlight Pilgrims

I just wasnt into Blindsight. I was reading but not..I was going back
to reread stuff I jut read.
I liked it, it was good but my mind wasnt into it
Started something else
Between Their Worlds

I just discovered Stephen Baxter (Raft), and I like how he blends the issue of how science can solve the problem of what faces the characters, but what becomes the obstacle to the science is the age-hold human conflict of class warfare. No matter how good the science becomes, the human dilemma must still be solved.
I finished Escape from Hell. It is more of an ideas book than a character book, although the characters are used to explore the ideas. I thought it was OK. Next up is our January Deverry book.

This month I've read Child of a Hidden Sea, which was a pleasant surprise, and Den of Wolves, which was a seriously solid ending to a good series. I just finished up The Past Through Tomorrow, which I started last year. It was pretty typical Heinlein... big ideas, cool science and "history" extrapolation, and no female character agency worth mentioning.
I'm hoping to finish one more book this month. Not sure if I'm going to finish off my Heinlein TBRs with Revolt in 2100/Methuselah's Children (which might be an easy win, since Methuselah's Children is in the collection I just read) or start tackling my small stack of Christmas presents.

I found Stephen Baxter in his collaborations with Arthur Clarke (which I highly recommend, especially Light of Other Days). Always wanted to get around to some of his standalone work.
I wrapped up the Deverry book, The Fire Dragon and then zipped through Rise of Empire. I throughly enjoyed them both and found the second book in The Riyria Revelations to be more complex than the first, while retaining the occasional wit and dry humor. Next I will be returning to the Saga of Recluce with Colors of Chaos.

I just finished up Swordspoint which was an utter delight, and was a nice refreshing palate cleanser. Funny, fun and stuffed full of the things a good fantasy of manners make.
I'm going to try Ninefox Gambit on audio now, but I'm not sure how i'll go.

sounds pretty typical for Stephenson...his worldbuilding is amazing but he has some flaws too. I haven't read this one yet.
I finished The Fire Dragon last night for the Deverry read. Not sure what's up next!

Until now I've just read Snow Crash. But I finished Seveneves recently and enjoyed it a great deal. I did get a little irritated at some of his characterizations, but in the end they contributed greatly to the whole of this immense saga. I would suggest sticking it out.

In the meantime, I am continuing the Dagger and the Coin series with The King's Blood.

The infodumps in this one are tough, there are parts where he goes into Orbital Mechanics which was way over my head. If you can get through that the characters do come.
It's not one of his best but the ideas in the book are amazing

and we are left waiting for the next books to find out they whys
Started a biography, Marcus Agrippa: Right-hand Man of Caesar Augustus
I have a penchant for Roman history.
I've just started The Rook, and though I'm not very far into it it's grabbed me right away and I can't wait to get back to it tonight :)

I remember it as a strange book also, especially the footnotes, which linked all the invented stuff to real scientific research. Strange, for a book which includes, amngst many other oddities, a vampire spaceship captain.

Sorry you gave up on it, but the main thing to it was the inculsion of those footnotes, at least to me.

Its a strange book, and I was enjoying it. Just not at this time
I am going to try it again.
