Melissa | 1347 comments Hi Andrea! Welcome to the team!

I've read The Martian so if you do read that Cat it can be used as a reverse. :)

I'm going to check out the mini-challenge and see what I can read that will fit. Great job putting the tabs in!

message 352: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Already started The Martian! :)

message 353: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 916 comments Well color me stupid-I don't know where that book came from then. I'll take another look at everything for the mini challenge and come up with a different plan.

Hey! not stupid! it's a ludicrously complicated challenge.

message 355: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments finished 14 Feb
The Martian by Andy Weir

both Camilla & Melissa have read it, so use for REVERSE - either the single one in hand 2 or the 2 + draw two in hand 3, Brianna having dropped out

ALSO: it works for the Valentine Part 2 task - character is single and remains single through the book - Mark is alone on Mars for the entirety. It's also clear that he doesn't have an SO pining on Earth

message 356: by Emma (new)

Emma | 757 comments Welcome Andrea. Hope you like this group :)

Sorry I have been absent the last couple of days I will catch up with things today :)

there are three books to be added, Emma. I've green highlighted on the tracking sheet - easier than going through the threads?

message 358: by Emma (new)

Emma | 757 comments That's very kind of you thank you :)

Any book that was claimed but not read has been deleted from the spreadsheet, it can still be read but will be put in the later hands. Let's start filling up these hands :)

message 359: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Emma, don't forget the Valentine challenge - The Martian fits for one of the Part2 tasks :)

message 360: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments I've started Star Sand which is short, quick and works for Valentine (new friendship) as well as 0, I, H, S & skip

I expect to finish it the afternoon

message 361: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments oh, and advanced warning: It's my brother's wedding on Friday (yay!) so I'm going to be out of range of a PC Thursday afternoon - Saturday evening. And doing less reading too, being in the bosom of my excited family for that period.

I might be able to update, but it'll be limited info only.

message 362: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1347 comments That's exciting Cat! Have fun at the wedding :):)

message 363: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Thanks Melissa! Unless I end up in a stupid argument with my other brother-in-law, I will have an awesome time!

Though I will also be super glad to get home on Sat evening!

message 364: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments finished:
15 Feb
Star Sand by Roger Pulvers
fits:
0 - standalone
3 - Hiromi character
5 - Iwabuchi character
6 - S title
Skip - Pulvers author

VALENTINE = new friendship - struck up between Iwabuchi and Bob (and a bit with Hiromi)

message 365: by Emma (new)

Emma | 757 comments That should it be updated.

Cat enjoy the wedding and don't worry, just update when you get back no rush :)

We currently have finished 4 hands and are close to finishing a few more. We are doing good.

message 366: by Emma (new)

Emma | 757 comments Since we are about half way, can everyone check I have included all the books they have read for this challenge so far and that they are all on your uno shelves.

There's three ways to check that I have included your books, either via the spreadsheet, the tracking sheet or at the beginning of this discussion I have a list of them assigned to each person, so no excuses :P Please just a quick comment to let me know you've checked.

message 367: by Cat (last edited Feb 15, 2017 08:53AM) (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Got all mine! :)

by-the-by, should you be adding title details into the Valentines tab of the main sheet?

I think i'm going to start Conclave next - set in Rome so meets the Part 2 Italy task. No idea of main card options as yet.

also got following lined up, if anyone wants to indicate an also-read book :) ETA: we've done all the reverses! Go Emma!
Alice
The Wrath & the Dawn
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil: A Savannah Story
The Paying Guests

What do you mean? I have been adding them? Am I missing something?

In the part 2 ones, where the text of the task overruns the book title column?

message 370: by Emma (new)

Emma | 757 comments Ah, yes thanks, good catch!!

message 371: by Emma (new)

Emma | 757 comments Ye I assumed at least one other person would have read Divergent, may as well make use of a popular book. :)

Now the hard part again, deciding what to read next hmm.

Also 6 more books and we have finished 9 hands :D

message 372: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1347 comments I have read Divergent ;)

I've got about 5 hours left to listen to Cop Town and about 70 pages left of Scrappy Little Nobody. Both of which I started before the mini-challenge so neither will work for that. Once I decide what I'm reading next I'll let you know - I'll make sure it works for the mini-challenge too.

You have all of my books listed :)

message 373: by Emma (new)

Emma | 757 comments Cool Thanks :D

message 374: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1251 comments All my books are listed correctly. Should finish at least one more today.

Enjoy the wedding, Cat! Will it be a big one, with lots of guests?

message 375: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Nah, small one. Just family and a few close friends for the service & wedding breakfast, then more people invited for the evening dancing :)

message 376: by Emma (new)

Emma | 757 comments I am lucky I have found another book that team rachel Watson have read, already sitting on my bookshelf, got it fro xmas. Time to read it I think :)

message 377: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2147 comments Fingers crossed for an N too!

message 378: by Emma (new)

Emma | 757 comments Well I was originally going to find one with that, but decided to look at the challenge and found they had added another one I could read, thought I might aswell, it's an extra 10 points and will fit somewhere on the hands. Fits 5, so that's an awkward one taken care of I cannot make it fit 9.

message 379: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1347 comments I'm going to listen to A Study in Scarlet next. It is only 5 hours and will fit the Valentine challenge:

Read a book written in the 1800s

I'm going to start listening tomorrow.

message 380: by Emma (last edited Feb 15, 2017 04:13PM) (new)

Emma | 757 comments sounds good :) I always wanted to read sherlock but never get around to it.

NOTE: For the Valentine's challenge part 1, section 2. It can be any book that has been added by members of that team, not just the read shelf, so scour through what they want to read too. But it has to ahve been added to their shelves in feb of any year.

Hope that makes it a little easier. I did think the first one was going to be the hardest, but so far we have 4 out of the 5 sorted (not all read yet) but getting there.

I started The Shadow Queen (Ravenspire, #1) by C.J. Redwine today and really loving it. Was planning to read it at some point for this cahllenge anyway but this works out really well.

NOTE: Remember to check the other teams spreadsheet as they keep updating it and we can use books they are reading throughout this month. Although we only need one more, but it can still used for the second part of Part 1.

message 381: by Emma (new)

Emma | 757 comments I'm starting to update the tracking sheet for the mini challenge part 1 section 2, it's going to take a long time so I eill it in dribs and drabs, so it's worth checking each time you choose a new book.

Catherine and Melissa have a done a great job with the tracking sheet so far, so let's make sure we use it :D

I can help with the tracking spreadsheet too Emma - I'll add some books throughout the day. It is good to know that it is any book ADDED in February!! I wasn't clear on that either. :)

message 390: by Melissa (last edited Feb 16, 2017 06:22AM) (new)

Melissa | 1347 comments Camilla

Do any of the books you just added fit into the Valentine part? They have to have been started after Feb 14 when the challenge was announced.

message 391: by Emma (new)

Emma | 757 comments @Melissa that's cool I am doing Cathy M's bookshelf, so if you choose another to save confusion. She ha loads on her shelf, gonna take a long time :( Oh well will be worth it.

With "added" do you mean "completed"? If so, no, sorry, they don't fit, I started all of them before the mini-challenge started.

message 396: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1251 comments Completed 16Feb: The Underground Girls of Kabul: In Search of a Hidden Resistance in Afghanistan by Jenny Nordberg
Cards:
2 - title
6 - char Shukria
9 - author
Skip - setting Kabul
Not sure whether it should be a standalone or part of a series; it does contain a series name (Reportaz) here in GR, but it's not numbered. Maybe use for a 9 instead.
And not suitable for Valentine, as started prior.

message 397: by Emma (last edited Feb 16, 2017 10:39AM) (new)

Emma | 757 comments That's great :) The 9 filled up a hand, we a re doing really well. :)

I should finish one to finish another hand soon. :)

message 398: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1347 comments No problem Camilla - just making sure :)

message 399: by Emma (new)

Emma | 757 comments I am now going to read Haven (Chronicles of Warshard #1) by Katherine Bogle and hope it fits somewhere in the 2nd part of the valentines mini-challenge

message 400: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 916 comments If we still need that fifth book for Valentine challenge part 1 of 1 I can read A Lime To Kill by Summer Prescott.
