I love this book but since it was first published in 1937, it doesn't qualify for this category - why not nominate it for the next group classic:

Can you remind me where to find the guidelines for the different categories please Leslie.

I would like to second this, I have been wanting to read Rushdie for years but reading it a group would be great.

Great choice Raul! I wish I could second two books!

As I mentioned in the message I sent out, group fiction is for books first published within the last 50 years; anything older than that is eligible for the group classic read.

Its been on my list a while now - won National Book Award and nominated for Pulitzer as well.

I did think about this being a bit long, but I have been wanting to read it for a while and thought it might be a good one to discuss as well.

Title: Life and Fate
Author: Vasily Grossman
Life and Fate is one of the great novels of the 20th century"
Ooh, I will second this!

The Poisonwood Bible
The Fifth Season
The Dry
Midnight's Children
Behind the Beautiful Forevers is non fiction so can't be included here, and Life and Fate and I, Claudius would fit better in the Classics section (see Leslie's note above) so we will just go to the poll with the four books listed above.

Nominations start today and will close on January 30th.
During this time anybody can either nominate or second a book. The 6 books with the most second votes at the end of the 5 day nomination period will go into the poll. Each person can either nominate one book or second one book. There are no limits to the number of seconds a book can receive.
The poll will then run until the 4th February 2017 and the winner will be announced the following day. This will leave nearly a month for people to get hold of the book in preparation for the read.
Please only nominate, second or vote for a book you will read with the group if it should win. Please also check that your chosen nomination hasn't been a group read in the past. You can do this by looking at the group bookshelf, contact one of the moderators or post on 'Ask the Moderators' thread
If you have any questions on the nominations process please contact me, use the 'Ask the Moderators' thread or post on here and we will be happy to help.
And don't forget - our February group fiction read will be Night Waking by Sarah Moss - please join us!
