Beware SPOILERS... the second Keats cybrid, M. Severn, can dream what is happening to Brawne Lamia (one of the Shrike Pilgrims) through her eyes, because Brawne carries an implant of the first Keats cybrid, her now dead lover (Keats from Cantos 1). But in Chap 11 p88 Severn recognizes Dr. Arundez (Time Tomb researcher) at first glance, apparently by seeing through another Shrike Pilgrim, Sol Weintraub. Is Severn connected to all the pilgrims? I thought the only connection was to Brawne Lamia.

I am pretty sure if you corner Dan Simmons at a convention, and challenge a plot point in any of the Hyperion books, he just screams "THE TECHNOCORE DID IT!" and runs off.

Funnily enough, on p88 of MY edition (paperback) Severn and Gladstone are talking about his "connection to the pilgrims". The moment you mention is on p109 for me :)

Okay so Severn is at Cicero's on Hyperion with Hunt etc, and Arundez and gang walk past the table and Severn ASKS "Wasn't that Melio Arundez?". I think it is reasonable that Severn "recognises" Arundez from Lamia hearing Sol's tale in the first book. We could also infer that Severn researched the crap out of everyone involved in the pilgrimage, even tangentially, via his Technocore megasphere link before his mission started. Or maybe his system automatically pops up bio information on people as they are mentioned to him - even humans have this function via implant, as confirmed at the party at the beginning of the book.

Also, in a bar full of toughs and FORCE personnel and bureaucrats, a bunch of archaeologists might be really obvious. Severn then approaches their table and says "Dr Arundez?" and Arundez responds. Which confirms his suspicions.

I think this is a moment of lax storytelling on Simmons' part but I'll give him a pass on this one :).

In sadder news, your question has led me to discover my copy of Fall of Hyperion is falling to bits... :(

Thanks Anthony! I was trying to equate hearing about Dr. Alvarez through hearing Sol's story through awareness of Brawne's experiences, which creates several levels of detachment, to being able to recognize him at first sight (or highly suspect it is him) and you nailed it with: ...(reasonable to infer) Severn researched the crap out of everyone involved in the pilgrimage, even tangentially, via his Technocore megasphere link (or they automatically pop up when mentioned). And Dr. Alvarez being a famous researcher would be all over the megashpere HA! Of course, this guy is a walking version of all those links I keep seeing when I surf the net urging me to find out "...you'd be surprised what information about you is available on the web, click here to find out..." haha! thanks for trying to leverage my paranoia there guys!
